Position Snapshot/A Day in the Life: The Engineering Technician II performs routine drafting and technical engineering work in support of municipal infrastructure projects. Responsibilities include assisting with engineering design and planning, providing customer service, and performing technical office and field duties related to updating, maintaining, and analyzing the Public Works and Engineering Department's Geographic Information System (GIS) and utility infrastructure data. This position coordinates and conducts research, field data collection, and condition assessments of infrastructure assets, using GIS, database, and information management tools to support capital planning and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Essential Functions

Engineering Technician II -This is the full journey level in the Engineering Technician series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Engineering Technician I By the performance of the full range of duties as assigned including the moderately complex duties of drafting, office and field engineering work. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is flexibly staffed and is normally filled by advancement from the I level, or when filled from the outside, requires previous work experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Incumbent must have the ability to:

  • Review and process tract maps, parcel maps, of line adjustments, grants of easement, and street right-of-ways for recordation.
  • Verify fulfillment of conditions of approval for new subdivisions; perform on-site inspections to verify survey monuments related to parcel maps and lot line adjustments.
  • Prepare and draft technical engineering plans for construction of streets, alleys, storm drains, water lines, and other public improvements.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley is generating a new applicant pool of qualified temporary instructors and invites applications for a lecturer position to teach courses in our department in the areas of Energy, Civil Infrastructure and Climate; Constructions Systems; Environmental Engineering; GeoSystems Engineering; Structural Engineering, Mechanics and Materials; Systems (Civil Systems); and Transportation Engineering.



This pool is being generated in case of need to accommodate upcoming course needs and new applicants. We plan to hire for the Spring semester, Summer Sessions , and the Fall semester, if the need arises. Candidates under consideration will be contacted by our department. Position description

The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach undergraduate courses in all areas within chemical and biomolecular engineering, though candidates with experience in biochemical engineering laboratory will receive special consideration, should an opening arise. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending on the needs of the department. This position is in a represented bargaining unit.



The vibrant community of CBE is situated within the College of Chemistry, a small college within a large campus, with a connected and collegial feel. The College provides comprehensive student support services including peer tutoring, professional advising, career placement, and drop-in counseling. Award-winning student groups including chapters of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), American Cancer Society (ACS) and Chemical Engineering Car (Chem-E-Car) enhance the student experience, and faculty members mentor students in clubs and teams in biofuels technology, cosmetics formulation, phytoremediation, and research projects.

As a Manufacturing Engineer - Structures and Propulsion, you will be responsible for developing, qualifying, and implementing manufacturing processes and procedures to build, test and launch satellites, related subsystems, and components.

Position Responsibilities:

- Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements: researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing, methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors

- Reviews designs for manufacturability and production scalability

- Collaborate with stakeholders to create and maintain work instructions, bills of materials, standard operating procedures, etc. in support of manufacturing and supply chain execution

- Coordinates and implements new engineering principles, theories, advanced technologies and concepts

- Leads advanced design solutions and supports research of new product or business opportunities

- Leads and executes tasks as needed to transition hardware build from low-rate initial production to higher rate production

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

- Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline (ABET accreditation required)

- 3+ years' experience in mechanical manufacturing engineering in Aerospace, Automotive, or Commercial industries. (Structures, Propulsion, Integration or GSE)

- Experience reading, analyzing, and interpreting mechanical engineering drawings, technical manuals and policies and recommend changes to procedures

- Good understanding of GD&T per ASME Y14.5

- Must have technical problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis complete with sound engineering based corrective actions

- Knowledge of manufacturing engineering principles and concepts

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

- Experience with any of the following: composites, bonded joints, dampers, additive manufacturing, shock or mechanisms

- Thorough understanding of root cause analysis and related analytical methodology (Five Whys, Fishbone/Ishikawa Analysis, 8D, etc.)
