Job Summary

Under general supervision and following established policies and procedures, performs diagnostic Ultrasound exams utilizing appropriate imaging equipment. Verifies patient identity and reviews patients medical record for appropriateness of exam or procedure.

Summary Description

In addition to the staff nurse role, assumes shift responsibilities for the care delivery team. The Detroit Medical Center (DMC) Registered Nurse (RN) is a member of the Patient Care Services Team, and is responsible for the satisfactory completion of nursing care by the nursing team. The Detroit Medical Center (DMC) Registered Nurse (RN) is a member of the Patient Care Services Team, and is responsible for the satisfactory completion of nursing care by the nursing team. The RN manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through application of independent judgment, communication and collaboration with all team members including ancillary and support services. The role of the Registered Nurse at the DMC encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration, teaching and supervision.

The DMC RN:
• Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians and other health care providers
• Delegates, assesses, provides and evaluates patient care
• Provides and delegates patient care activities to team members
• Monitors patient progress and prepares patient for discharge
• Reports directly to senior unit management and participates in shared decision-making activities

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Graduation from a school of nursing required.
2. BSN preferred.
3. Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Michigan required.
4. American Heart Association (AHA) BLS required.

Responsibilities

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plans, coordinates, provides and manages nursing care services and health education to nursing home guests

Supervise the care/services provided by Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA)/State-Tested Nursing Assistants (STNA) and other team members who care for guests

Provide safe and accurate medication-related interventions to guests

Assess the health of guests and notify the physician of changes in status. Promptly implement new orders

Select and institute appropriate nursing interventions to stabilize a guest’s condition and/or prevent complications

Contribute to the guest’s assessment (MDS/CAA’s) and the development of a plan of care

Qualifications

- 1-3 years of experience in a long-term care setting preferred
