MHS is hiring married couples to serve as Full-time Flex Houseparents. In this unique and life-changing career, couples reside in on-campus student homes and provide care, guidance, supervision, and support for a group of approximately 8–13 students living in the home. Flex Houseparents play a vital role in creating a structured, family-like environment that fosters students’ academic, emotional, and social development so they can reach their full potential.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing daily supervision and mentorship
- Managing household routines and student schedules
- Administering medications and ensuring student wellness
- Driving students to activities, as well as planning and actively engaging in developmental and recreational activities with students
- Leading daily devotions and accompanying students to Sunday Chapel
- Overseeing budgeting and household reporting
Upon hire, Flex Houseparents initially support various student homes and follow a working schedule of nine consecutive days on duty, followed by three days off. On weekdays, houseparents have unscheduled time while students are in school. Flex Houseparents eventually transition into a Placed Houseparent role, where they live and work with the same group of students in their own student home.

How you’ll make an impact in this role- Execute focused, high-frequency assessments for "short-stay" patients (typically 23–48 hours) presenting with chest pain, syncope, or post-trauma concussions, accurately identifying those requiring escalation to inpatient status versus those safe for discharge.
- Utilize advanced telemetry systems to monitor real-time rhythms for a rotating patient load, identifying transient arrhythmias or ST-segment changes that may indicate underlying cardiovascular instability following a traumatic event.
- Independently manage standardized "Rule-Out" protocols (such as serial Troponins or Post-TIA workups), ensuring all diagnostic testing, labs, and imaging are completed within strict timeframes to meet hospital throughput goals.
- Provide targeted, "just-in-time" education for patients and families regarding new cardiac medications, wound care for minor trauma, and follow-up requirements, ensuring a safe and informed transition back to the community.
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
- BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
- Registered Nurse credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
Education:
- Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing OR Required professional licensure at time of hire.
