Job Description: We are seeking a dedicated Production Welder to assist with welding tasks under supervision, supporting the structural repairs and modernization of marine vessels, including U.S. Naval Vessels, Military Sealift Command, and commercial ships. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of welding techniques and safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with production welding under supervision, contributing to structural repairs and modernization efforts.
- Provide direction to welding helpers for the completion of tasks.
- Maintain accountability for daily work assignments and adhere to assigned shifts and overtime as needed.
- Operate and maintain welding equipment and tools, ensuring they are in safe and working condition.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, journeyman, and welding personnel, providing quality work and adhering to project specifications.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and company safety practices.
- Prepare work areas for hot work and assist with fire prevention measures.
- Inspect welds for defects and assist in the documentation of existing conditions.
- Familiarize with safety requirements before commencing work and assist with Lock-out Tag-out procedures.
Qualifications:
- Ability to comprehend instructions and general correspondence.
- Working knowledge of ship repair terminology and ship compartment names.
- Physically and medically capable of wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) as per OSHA standards.
- Effective communication skills for job-related information exchange.
- Understanding of SMAW and FCAW welding theory, with basic welding experience.
- Certification in SMAW (T-1-HY) and FCAW (T-34-A) preferred.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, specifications, and relevant manuals.
- Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Up to one (1) year of welding experience.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift/carry/push/pull up to 75 lbs occasionally, and up to 20 lbs frequently.
- Prolonged standing, climbing, and working in confined spaces may be required.
- Ability to respond to visual, verbal, and audible commands.
- Comfort working at heights and in varying environmental conditions.
