Overview
The Clinical Staff Pharmacist provides direct patient care related to medication prescribing, administration, and monitoring for patients of Carle Foundation Hospital. This individual also participates in decentralized care and focused drug studies, and will provide clinical expertise to assist the other staff pharmacists in completion of their duties.

Responsibilities
Assist in focused studies and drug usage evaluations as assigned. Assist in the development of clinical guidelines and order sets as related to appropriate drug therapy. Participate in decentralized care interacting with physician groups such as family practice, hospitalists, and critical care. Provide direct patient care by intervening as appropriate to improve prescribing, administration, and monitoring practices in the facility as related to medications. Represent the pharmacy on committees or work groups as assigned. Interpret physician medication orders and send the appropriate medication in a timely and accurate manner. Screen medication orders for potential interactions with other medications, diet orders, disease state, or stated allergies. Supervise the technicians in the preparation and dispensing of medications and parenterals. Make dose recommendations based on age, weight and clearance function. Assist in the training and orientation of all new employees as assigned. Provide accurate and complete accounting of all controlled substances. Provide Medication Therapy Management Services as defined in the Illinois Pharmacy Practice Act. Performs utilization management reviews. Serves as drug information resource for other departments. Responsibilities
Rooming patients: Collecting pertinent information regarding the patient's chief complaint, vital signs and medication reconciliation upon arrival for a patient visit. May perform procedures such as suture or staple removal, application or removal ofone step splintsat the direction of a provider, reading results of negative TB skin tests or steering patient to the care of a department nurse when TB screening appears to have indications of a positive read, and other diagnostic testing at the point of care. Provide patient with written instructions regarding procedures, medications, or follow up instructions at the direction of the provider. CMA staff may retrieve and provide condition specific education from the internet, internal website, or printed materials per the provider directions and orders. Administer medications per the provider order. Provide assistance with prescription medication refills per department protocols. Call medications into pharmacies, notify patients of refills, and documents actions within the EMR per provider orders. Maintain department specific competencies related to point of care testing, equipment handling, and specialty training. Obtain vitals and collect data for patients to be seen by provider. Perform waiting room and exam room rounding. Assist providers with procedures. Perform following procedures: EKG, ear washes, and vision screen, dressing changes, wound care and point of care testing. Clean and sterilize instruments. Collect and process specimens correctly. Member of the code team. Administer medications via Intramuscular, Subcutaneous, oral, and inhalation. Orient new staff members.

Overview
Summer Nurse Internship will run from May 18, 2026 through July 18, 2026 (Dates may vary if current Carle employee).
Eligible Nursing Students are those who have completed one semester of a nursing program including nursing clinicals.
