KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Execution & Operational Excellence

  • Full Project Ownership: Drive the execution of project scope, schedule, and budget with a focus on precision and resource efficiency in a fast-paced field environment.
  • Margin Protection: Proactively manage project financials by identifying scope changes early and securing fair pricing through a rigorous change-management process, without sacrificing quality or timeliness.
  • Client Stewardship: Act as the primary face of Hatfield Construction, building high-trust relationships with owners, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors through clear, consistent, and professional communication.  Manage the client’s overall project experience by ensuring transparent communication and professional delivery at every stage of the project lifecycle.  
  • Process Contribution: Serve as a key voice in refining our standard operating procedures (SOPs) as we implement new technologies and professionalize our project management lifecycle.
  • Operational Accountability: Lead the project team, including fellow employees and external stakeholders, with a high level of accountability to ensure project goals are achieved.  

Leadership & Strategic Coordination

  • Field Partnership: Collaborate closely with superintendents and foremen to ensure the "boots on the ground" have the data, materials, and equipment needed to maintain momentum.
  • Agile Problem Solving: Navigate the unique logistical challenges of heavy civil work with a solution-oriented mindset, pivoting quickly as site conditions or priorities shift.
  • Modernization: Champion the transition to digital-first management tools (e.g., Procore), ensuring that project data is accurate, accessible, and actionable.
  • Principal  Representation: Serve as the face of Hatfield Construction for all stakeholders during kick-offs, job walks, and official correspondence.  

Technical Integrity & Safety

  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all site-work, from utilities to mass grading, meets our high standards for technical excellence and engineering compliance.
  • Safety Leadership: Foster a "Safety First" culture on every jobsite, ensuring compliance with OSHA 30 standards and promoting a zero-incident environment.


QUALIFICATIONS

Professional Profile

  • Experience: 8–10+ years of progressive project management experience in heavy civil construction (site work, mass grading, and utility infrastructure), including knowledge of construction costing, scheduling, estimating, purchasing, project accounting, and engineering principles & techniques.
  • Licensure: Valid MA Construction Supervisor License (CSL) and OSHA 30 are required.
  • Communication: Highly professional communication skills, including the ability to deal proactively with challenging situations directly and constructively, are critical to success in this role.
  • Adaptability: A proven track record of succeeding in growth-stage companies where "wearing multiple hats" and taking initiative are keys to success.
  • Tech Proficiency: Strong overall computer skills and proficiency in estimating software.

Reporting to the CTO, the Lead Optical Characterization Engineer will collaborate with a talented team of engineers and scientists to test and evaluate cutting-edge Myrias Optics components and systems. Specifically, this position will lead experimental characterization of optical components, define and set up optical characterization systems, establish test and characterization procedures, develop efficient data acquisition and analysis methodologies, and grow and manage the optical characterization team. This role is ideal for someone with strong system-level thinking and hands-on optical experience, who is eager to lead complex interdisciplinary projects and mentor junior staff. You will serve as a bridge between software, hardware, and optical domains, ensuring our systems meet stringent performance and quality benchmarks. Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Systems Engineering

  • Lead cross-functional efforts in the development and integration of optical test systems.
  • Define and enforce system-level requirements, test procedures, and verification protocols.
  • Coordinate resources and timelines for optical characterization projects from concept to execution.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to a growing team of engineers and technicians.

Optical Characterization and Metrology

  • Design optical systems for high volume screening and characterization of wafer level optics operating in mass production environments.

Qualifications and Requirements

Experience

POSITION – Senior Optical Design Engineer 

Reporting to the Lead, the Senior Optical Design Engineer will collaborate with a talented team of engineers and scientists to help envision and design cutting-edge Myrias Optics components and systems. Specifically, this position will head up Myrias’ design efforts, shaping the optical components and subsystem for our external customers and internal products.  This position will also be responsible for growing and managing the optical design team. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and capable engineer to gain expertise in the growing fields of meta-optics, waveguides, and diffractive optics.  Together, we can shape next-generation optical systems for consumer devices, AR/VR, medical instrumentation, automobiles, robotics, and more.  


POSITION TYPE: Full time, on-site  

Salary Range: $135,000 - $160,000

LOCATION: Amherst, MA 


RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • In collaboration with the technical team, the candidate will perform day-to-day metasurface design and analysis based on Myrias’ proprietary all-inorganic nano-imprint materials and processes. 
  • Expand Myrias’ design capabilities, including development of simulation workflows and modeling pipelines using in-house developed codes, to advance our unique and proprietary optical design environment.   
  • Design and simulate optical components and sub systems (waveguides, diffractive optics, meta-optics, etc.)  
  • Automate design tasks using Python and MATLAB for next-generation and future metasurface products.   
  • Perform tolerance studies, optimize, and iterate on designs to meet manufacturing requirements for Myrias’ products.  
  • Coordinate with process development and production teams to bridge the gap between design and manufacturing.  
  • Support specification and acquisition of key design tools and hardware. 
  • Providing customer support for new designs and products and participating in customer meetings. 
  • Create detailed internal specification documents for simulation methodologies, design rules, and customer product reports. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Ph.D. or MS.c. with 5+ years of related experience in optical engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent field. 
  • Strong experience conducting design and simulation of optical components and systems, such as diffractive optics, imaging systems, optical waveguides, laser systems. 
  • Solid understanding of metasurface physics, and diffractive, geometrical, and ray optics. 
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, and C/C++ for scientific computing, and workflow automation. 
  • Extensive hands-on experience with commercial and custom optical design and simulation tools, including RCWA (e.g., S4), FDTD (Meep or Lumerical), Zemax/CodeV, and RSoft; familiarity with additional modeling techniques and tools such as TMM, FEM, LightTrans, etc., is highly desirable. 
  • Proficiency with Windows, Linux, and macOS environments, as well as experience using SLURM for workload and job management. 
  • Experience with optical characterization and the ability to experimentally validate designs in a laboratory setting. 
  • Strong interpersonal and technical communication skills. 
  • Familiarity with CAD design packages (e.g., SolidWorks or AutoCAD) are desirable. 
  • Familiarity with imprint or nanofabrication processes and cleanroom experience are a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Process and formulation development:

  • Work closely with the Myrias process, characterization and manufacturing teams to develop and optimize ink formulations meeting product requirements and production standards
  • Work with our manufacturing team to transitioning fabrication knowledge and processing techniques for all-inorganic nanoimprinting to high volume production, including formulations, stamp making and imprint processes
  • Assist with fabrication of components and systems based on Myrias' proprietary materials and processes meeting quality and optical performance specifications
  • Conduct comprehensive nanoimprint ink tests and optimization, including formulation, imprinting, and post processing (calcination, ashing, etching, atomic layer deposition and/or overcoating)
  • Performing metrology for fabricated components by top-down and cross-sectional scanning electron microscopy, variable angle spectroscopic ellipsometry, UV-Vis-NIR spectrometry and contact angle measurements
  • Work with Myrias optical characterization team to feedback optical test results into process optimization efforts to enabling a closed loop process
  • Familiarity with characterization and testing of optical devices, including the use of lenses, mirrors, light sources, fiber optics, cameras, lasers, and other optical devices is a strong plus
  • Establish detailed and thorough documentation for all operating procedures and production processes
  • Assist in expand Myrias' fabrication capabilities by identifying and implementing new process improvements
  • Development and maintain comprehensive database of research data, sample/product travelers, characterization and yield data, and sample histories
  • Provide technical guidance and feedback to management for more efficient workflow
  • Create detailed internal reviews and customer product reports
