Head of Engineering, Technology, Media, & Telecom

🏢 Fractal
Salary not disclosed
San Francisco Bay 1 day ago

Fractal is a strategic AI partner to Fortune 500 companies, with a bold vision: to power every human decision in the enterprise. We believe the future belongs to organizations that combine human imagination with intelligent systems—and Fractalites are the ones building that future. As we scale our Technology, Media & Telecom (TMT) practice in the United States, we are looking for a senior, client-facing Head of Engineering to shape and deliver world-class Data & AI platforms for leading Technology, Media & Telecom organizations.

This is not a back-office engineering role. This is a consulting-led, client-facing engineering leadership position for someone who is equally comfortable whiteboarding architecture with principal engineers, rolling up their sleeves with delivery teams, and advising CIOs, CTOs, and CDOs in the boardroom.

Learn more at Fractal | Intelligence for Imagination.

Note: This position is not eligible for Immigration Sponsorship at this time.

About the Role

This is a four-axis leadership role requiring technical depth, executive presence, team leadership, and embedded delivery. You'll work directly with top technical and functional leaders at some of the largest TMT companies in the world.

As Head of Engineering for Fractal's Technology, Media & Telecom (TMT) vertical, you will personally shape the architecture of mission-critical AIML platforms, often in first-party tech stack, and develop/drive the team of ICs who bring them to life.

Responsibilities

Some engagements will look like a traditional advisory model. Others will look a lot more like Forward Deployed Engineering: your team embedded inside a client's engineering org, working within their first-party tech stack, shipping production code alongside their engineers, and earning influence through technical credibility, not org chart position.

You will need to be in the room when the technology roadmap needs to change. When a business pivot, a new regulation, or a technology shift forces a rethink mid-execution, you are the person who picks up the marker, walks to the whiteboard, and redraws the architecture in real time, credibly, for the CTO, and Principal Engineering leaders simultaneously.

Technical Depth (Hands-On Architecture)

  • Own AI/Data platform architecture decisions — from Lakehouse design and real-time streaming to MLOps, LLMOps, and AgentOps pipelines in production
  • Serve as the technical authority for Fractal's TMT engineering practice — defining standards, reviewing design, and holding the bar on reliability, scalability, and security
  • Translate ambiguous business problems into concrete, buildable platform architectures — and stay close enough to execution to know when something is not working
  • Drive the industrialization of GenAI: moving clients from proof-of-concept to enterprise-grade, governed, and observable AI systems

Executive Presence & Live Architectural Thinking

  • Command the room with senior client leadership — CIOs, CTOs, CDOs, and their direct reports - as a peer, not a vendor
  • Whiteboard new architectural directions on the spot: when a business pivot, acquisition, regulatory shift, or technology breakthrough forces a mid-execution rethink, you synthesize it into a credible, buildable path forward live, in the room, without needing a week to prepare a deck
  • Translate between two worlds simultaneously: make the architecture legible to a CFO and rigorous enough to satisfy a principal engineer in the same session
  • Shape client roadmaps at the strategic level; identifying where the current plan is under-ambitious, over-engineered, or misaligned with emerging AI capabilities, and steering accordingly
  • Represent Fractal at the highest level of client relationship

Team Leadership (Building & Driving Senior ICs)

  • Develop and lead a high-performing group of individual contributors. principally senior and staff engineers, ML engineers, and data platform engineers
  • Create the engineering culture: rigorous delivery standards, architectural thinking, and a bias toward elegant, production-grade solutions over quick fixes
  • Build leadership depth within the team, identifying principals who can own programs and grow into broader roles
  • Partner across Fractal's global AI and engineering Capability functions to staff programs strategically and raise capability across the TMT practice

Forward-Deployed & Embedded Delivery

  • Lead and run FDE-style engagements where your team operates inside the client's engineering environment
  • Navigate and deliver within client-owned, first-party technology stacks: proprietary data platforms, internal ML infrastructure, custom orchestration systems, and bespoke toolchains that do not appear in any industry survey
  • Adapt quickly to non-standard environments, understanding a client's internal platform deeply enough to extend it, integrate into it, and earn the trust of their engineering staff
  • Balance the tension between what Fractal does best and what the client's stack demands, knowing when to bring pattern, when to adapt, and when to advocate for a better path
  • Set the standards for how Fractal operates in deeply embedded engagements: how we onboard, document, transfer knowledge, and leave clients stronger than we found them

Candidate Profile

Technical Qualifications

TMT clients bring genuinely hard problems on both open and proprietary infrastructure. Expect to architect and oversee:

  • GenAI systems: RAG architectures, LLM fine-tuning pipelines, agentic workflow orchestration, and LLMOps observability
  • AI-powered products: personalization engines, churn prediction, content recommendation, and network fault detection
  • Client-proprietary ML infrastructure: internal feature stores, custom model serving layers, bespoke experiment tracking systems, and first-party orchestration frameworks
  • Cloud-native infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and GCP with enterprise-grade governance, security, and compliance baked in
  • Real-time and event driven data pipelines (e.g. network telemetry)
  • Modern Lakehouse platforms (Databricks, Snowflake, Delta Lake, Iceberg) at petabyte scale and proprietary data platform equivalents at leading tech-forward TMT organizations

Non-technical Qualifications

We are particularly interested in leaders from environments where engineering rigor, client accountability, executive presence, and AI depth all coexist including Forward Deployed Engineering, elite data/ML platform teams, and senior hyperscaler architecture practices.

  • 15–20 years of experience spanning AI/data engineering and technical leadership with clear evidence of owning architecture at scale
  • Deep hands-on experience deploying AI/ML/GenAI systems in production, in addition to advising on them
  • Demonstrated executive presence: you have walked into a CTO or CDO review, redrawn the architecture based on new constraints, and left the room with alignment
  • The ability to whiteboard fluently under pressure, synthesizing a team's in-flight work with a new business direction, making it rigorous enough for engineers and clear enough for executives, on the spot and without a rehearsal
  • Experience operating within client-owned or non-standard technology stacks - you have learned a proprietary system, earned trust from skeptical internal engineers, and delivered production-grade results inside someone else's infrastructure
  • A track record of leading senior engineers and building high-performance ML/engineering teams, including hiring, coaching, and developing principal-level ICs
  • Direct executive engagement experience - you have influenced CIO/CTO/CDO decisions and can hold your own in a room with technical and non-technical stakeholders at once
  • Strong cloud-native fluency across one or more hyperscalers, with genuine depth in data platform patterns (streaming, batch, Lakehouse, governance)

Strong Preferences

  • Experience in TMT vertical — hi-tech, telco, media platforms, streaming infrastructure, ad tech, or content delivery at scale
  • Prior work in FDE-style or embedded delivery models where your team shipped inside a client codebase and was evaluated by their engineering standards, not just deliverable milestones
  • Comfort with the ambiguity of 1P stack environments: you have debugged undocumented internal tools, extended proprietary frameworks, and figured out how to make external expertise land inside a closed ecosystem
  • A personal reputation for architectural clarity: the person colleagues call when a problem needs to be drawn, not just describe
  • Contributions to the ML/AI community: open source, publications, conference talks, or influential architectural patterns

Who Thrives Here

The Fractalite mindset is curious, rigorous, and impact driven. You will thrive in this role if you:

  • Enjoy being client-facing and accountable for outcomes.
  • Are comfortable navigating ambiguity, scale, and complex stakeholder environments.
  • Believe great platforms come from strong engineering culture plus disciplined execution.
  • See AI not as a novelty, but as a core enterprise capability that must be engineered responsibly.

Fractal provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.

QA Manager

NeuBird is scaling rapidly and we need a hands-on QA leader who can build quality into everything we ship while still rolling up their sleeves to write tests and debug complex issues. You'll own quality across our AI-powered DevOps platform while building and mentoring a distributed QA team.

What You'll Do

Lead quality assurance for Hawkeye, our AI SRE agent that helps teams manage and troubleshoot their production environments. You'll design and implement comprehensive test strategies covering UI, integration, and AI-specific testing while building the automation frameworks that let us ship fast without breaking things.

You'll manage a distributed QA team across the US and India, balancing hands-on testing work with coaching and process improvement. This means writing critical test cases yourself, reviewing automation PRs, coordinating testing across time zones, and partnering with engineering to catch issues before they reach customers. You'll own test infrastructure, establish quality metrics that matter, and be the voice of the customer when making tradeoffs between speed and stability.

This role reports to the VP of Engineering and will be instrumental in maintaining our product quality as we scale to aggressive growth targets.

What You Bring

You have 5-7 years in QA with at least 2 years managing QA teams, ideally at a B2B SaaS company building infrastructure or observability tools. You're deeply experienced with UI testing frameworks (Selenium, Cypress, Playwright), integration testing in complex distributed systems, and modern automation frameworks (pytest, Jest, TestNG, or similar). You understand the unique challenges of testing observability tools—metrics pipelines, log aggregation, distributed tracing, and alert systems.

Experience testing AI/ML systems is a strong plus—whether that's model validation, testing non-deterministic outputs, or ensuring AI agent reliability. You've worked with distributed teams across multiple time zones and know how to build processes that work asynchronously. You're comfortable with cloud platforms (AWS preferred), containerization, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.

More importantly, you're still technical. You can debug a failing test, write automation scripts, and jump into code reviews. You don't just manage—you lead by example. You understand that at a startup, sometimes the best leadership is writing the test that unblocks the team.

Why NeuBird

We're building the next generation of AI-powered DevOps intelligence. Join a well-funded team that's moving fast, shipping constantly, and building something genuinely differentiated in a massive market.

Founding SDR

Founding SDR role with a clear path to Account Executive

You'll be the first dedicated outbound hire and will work directly with the founding team.

About ZeroPath

ZeroPath is helping everyone from startups to the Fortune 500 and open-source projects like curl, sudo, Linux, FFmpeg, and OpenSSL find vulnerabilities that years of community scrutiny and traditional scanners missed.

ZeroPath maps and understands code in depth, analyzing code, dependencies, and infrastructure to understand how systems actually behave before tracing full attack paths and verifying exploitability. That deep understanding lets ZeroPath detect real issues including business logic flaws, authentication bypasses, and multi-step attack paths, while lowering noise dramatically compared to traditional tooling.

For our customers, we deliver better detection, massive noise reduction, and high-quality automated patches that shrink backlogs and improve developers' lives.

Stage:

  • YC-backed, $12.5M seed. RSAC Innovation Sandbox Top 10 Finalist.
  • Engineering teams actively replacing all traditional scanners with ZeroPath
  • Team of 10 doing the work of 100; you'll be joining early

Why this role exists

Security engineers and engineering leads already convert once they see what ZeroPath catches. The constraint is getting in front of the right people at the right companies. You'll fix that.

This is a high-signal, research-driven outbound role. You're not working off a purchased list and blasting templates. You're identifying companies with real attack surface, understanding their stack, and writing messages that demonstrate you know their world.

Target: 20+ qualified held meetings per month on the founders' calendars.

What you'll do:

  • Research targets deeply. Understand a company's tech stack, open-source dependencies, recent funding, and security posture before you write a single word.
  • Write technical outbound that earns replies from CTOs, VPs of Engineering, and security leads — people who delete 50 generic emails a day.
  • Work warm and inbound leads from product-led signups, content, and conferences. Follow up fast and with context.
  • Run multi-channel sequences across email, LinkedIn, phone, and creative touchpoints. If sending a security audit of their public GitHub repos gets the meeting, do that.
  • Attend and work security and developer conferences: Staff the booth, set meetings on the floor, and run same-day follow-up.
  • Keep Attio, Pylon tight. call notes, deal stages, next steps, no stale records.

What we're looking for

  • 1+ years of outbound SDR experience, ideally selling a technical product to engineering or security buyers
  • You can talk shop. You don't need to be a security researcher, but you should be able to hold a conversation about SAST vs. DAST, what a CVE is, why false positives kill adoption, and how CI/CD pipelines work. If you can't today, you're the type who'll learn it in a week.
  • Your writing is sharp. You can write a 3-sentence cold email that a VP of Engineering actually reads. No fluff, no "I hope this finds you well."
  • You're resourceful and relentless. You find the right person, figure out what they care about, and get creative about reaching them.
  • You're organized under volume. You can run 200+ active contacts without dropping balls.
  • You want to close. This role has a clear ramp to AE — you're here because you want to earn that seat.
  • Tools: Be proficient in using clay, lemlist, and any other form of outbound tool. If needed, you should be able to create pipelines via APIs/Webhooks, though that would be rare. You should be able to connect the dots in terms of signals: a hot lead in LinkedIn Ads, the same pattern in website visitors, a competitor we can replace very easily, and more.

Background doesn't look typical? Apply anyway. We care about signal over pedigree.

Comp & Benefits

  • $90–150k OTE (base + variable), with quota ramped for the first 60 days
  • Equity in an early-stage, YC-backed company
  • Health, dental, vision
  • Work directly with the founding team on GTM strategy

San Francisco | Full-time | In-person / Hybrid

About Wayo:

Wayo is an AI-powered platform for creating real, physical products — from simple swag to fully custom builds. In the last decade, Shopify has made it easy for people to sell, and Flexport has digitized global logistics. Now that selling and shipping are frictionless, everyone – from creators to brands – wants to "make." But the process of making remains offline, slow, and fragmented.

Wayo changes that. From prompt → design → manufacturing → delivery, we're automating the entire product creation process through a vertically integrated global supply chain made up of thousands of top factories. Our AI agent is grounded in real factory data – materials, customization methods, and production constraints – enabling instant, factory-ready outputs and fully automated sourcing.

Companies like Figma, NBCUniversal, Remote and Flexport, along with fast-growing startups, brands and creators, use Wayo to produce high-quality custom products at factory-direct pricing without compromising on speed or quality. Wayo is backed by top investors including Neo, Courtyard Ventures (Berkeley Business School’s venture fund), Brown Angel Group, and ASU Capital.

We’re at an exciting inflection point — real revenue, strong inbound demand, and new AI products launching — and we’re now building our go-to-market foundation.

The role:

This is not a traditional entry-level sales role.

As a BDR/sales associate, you’ll work directly with the founders and early team to help turn early traction into a repeatable growth engine. You’ll get hands-on exposure to customer acquisition, sales, partnerships, and real founder-level decision making.

This role is ideal for someone early in their career who wants to learn how GTM actually works at a startup — by doing it.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with founders to support and execute Wayo’s go-to-market strategy
  • Research and identify high-potential customers across startups, marketing, events, HR, and operations teams
  • Support outbound efforts via email, LinkedIn, events, and creative outreach
  • Join customer calls, demos, and discovery conversations to learn consultative selling firsthand
  • Help prepare tailored demos, proposals, and follow-ups for prospective customers
  • Represent Wayo at trade shows, conferences, and community events
  • Track pipeline activity and customer insights in HubSpot
  • Collect and surface customer feedback to inform product, pricing, and messaging
  • Take increasing ownership over deals, accounts, or channels as you ramp

What we’re looking for:

  • 2 years of experience in business, consulting, sales, startups, or customer-facing roles
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Curious, proactive, and comfortable talking to new people
  • Highly organized and eager to learn in a fast-moving environment
  • Interest in startups, AI, B2B, or building things from zero to one
  • Willingness to be in-person / hybrid in San Francisco

Bonus points if you have experience in:

  • Internship or project experience in sales, consulting, VC, startups, or student-led organizations
  • Experience with outbound, customer interviews, or event-based outreach
  • Familiarity with tools like HubSpot, Notion, or LinkedIn
  • A builder mindset — side projects, clubs, startups, or scrappy things you’ve shipped

Why This Role:

  • Direct exposure to founders and real decision-making
  • A front-row seat to building an AI-driven B2B company from the ground up
  • Clear growth path into Sales, Partnerships, or GTM leadership
  • High ownership, high learning, and real responsibility early on
