Undersea & Electronics Systems (UES) Department

Engineering Services Staff Technician.

This role will be on-site and located in Portsmouth, RI.

What You Will Do
Work under moderate supervision with acoustic engineers to perform in-water acoustic sensor testing at our acoustic test facility
Work with engineers to rig and fixture acoustic sensors and configure test equipment in support of in-water test events.
Perform crane operations to rig and position engineering test articles and hydrophones/projectors within the test facility.
Build and provide in-process test of acoustic sensors, including fine-pitch soldering, working with adhesives and chemicals, manufacturing tooling, curing cycles, fiber optics and general mechanical work.
Work with facilities personnel to ensure day-to-day operation of test tank equipment, such as water filtration, overhead cranes and plumbing systems.
Ensure engineering work in the test facility is conducted in accordance with lab operating procedures and company policy.
Work with limited supervision and meet commitments for identified schedule, financial, and technical goals.
Assimilate data packages for devices tested and make them available for cognizant engineering personnel.
Provide written communications of work accomplished and any pertinent issues encountered to designated managerial and subject matter experts

Qualifications You Must Have
Typically requires an AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
Experience with performing technician work in an engineering and/or production test environment.
Experience with the use of typical benchtop electronic test equipment inclusive of oscilloscopes, voltmeters, impedance analyzers and amplifiers.
Experience with the following processes or similar; adhesive bonding, chemical mixing, encapsulation, paint application, chromate touch up, vapor degreasing, die grinding, sanding, mechanical press, oven curing, vacuum bagging, vacuum chambers, micro/grit-blast, fiber optic splicing.
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Manufacturing Equipment Maintenance Technician


Job Purpose:

The Manufacturing Equipment Maintenance Technician ensures that all production equipment operates at peak efficiency and safety. This role involves troubleshooting complex mechanical and electrical systems, performing routine inspections, and collaborating with engineering teams to optimize machine performance.


Nature of Duties:

  • Perform scheduled inspections, lubrication, and part replacements based on manufacturer guidelines or CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) schedules.
  • Diagnose root causes of equipment failures using diagnostic tools (multimeters, vibration analyzers) and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Working knowledge of in line wave soldering operation on equipment with inline fluxing through multi waves process. Electrovert equipment a plus.
  • Working knowledge of in line selective soldering operations on equipment with inline fluxing through multi waves process.
  • BTU oven for SMT process for diagnostics and performing required maintenance.
  • Assist in the installation of new machinery and perform "changeovers" or setups for different product runs.
  • Adhere to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and OSHA safety standards to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Maintain accurate logs of repairs, part usage, and equipment history to track Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF).
  • Troubleshoot and monitor Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and automated robotic systems.


Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required (Associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Electronic, or a related technical field preferred).
  • 2–5 years in a manufacturing environment.
  • Wiring, sensors, motors, and circuit testing.
  • Gears, drives, bearings, and power transmission.
  • Troubleshooting hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Interpreting schematics and manuals. Root cause analysis under pressure.
  • Relaying status updates to shift leads.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs and standing for shifts
  • Noticing minor machine vibrations/noises.

General Description

The Estimator is responsible for the preparation and review of assigned roadway construction and/or asphalt paving estimate packages; implementing department standards and procedures while ensuring the accuracy and completeness of estimate packages. Company primarily performs construction activities involving asphalt paving/resurfacing, bridge construction, earthwork/grading, roadway construction/rehabs, and highway work.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Read/review plans, proposals, specifications, RFP’s, and any other pertinent project related documents necessary to develop a competent and competitive estimate/bid package.
  • Solicit estimates from various subcontractors and vendors to prepare estimate packages.
  • Prepare reports and analysis pertinent to estimating as requested by management
  • Review established labor, equipment, and material costs, for preparation of estimate/bid packages.
  • Prepare accurate estimates from conceptual and schematic drawings.
  • Produce detailed, final contract estimates, for primarily Asphalt Paving and Roadway/Site Development Projects.
  • Assess project exposures/construction risks and appropriately analyze cost and reflect these in an estimate.
  • Identify potential construction issues through the estimating process.
  • Identify value-engineering alternatives.

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes

  • Working experience on HCSS software or other equivalent estimating software.
  • Must be able to verbally communicate effectively; as well as written correspondence.
  • Working knowledge of asphalt laydown and/or roadway construction operations.
  • Must be able to interpret blueprints and written specifications.
  • Attention to detail, including interpretation and preparation of spreadsheets and other data.

Education and/or Experience

  • Requires a minimum of 5 years of experience as an Estimator bidding asphalt paving and/or roadway construction projects.
  • A degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or equivalent experience, is required.
  • Experience working for a General Contractor as an estimator bidding on Department of Transportation or other roadway projects between $1M and $25M required.

  • Infrequent ability to lift, up to 15 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Continuous mental attention required to complete tasks in an efficient manner.
  • Infrequent walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground and slopes in varying weather conditions.

Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that a Estimator encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Work generally is performed in an office environment, although periodic visits to construction sites and asphalt manufacturing facilities is required.
  • Noise level in the typical office work environment is quiet; however when visiting construction sites and/or asphalt manufacturing facilities, various levels of noise, dust and other environmental exposures may occur; any exposure is within the established Permissible Exposure Limits, however Personal protective Equipment such as hardhats, hearing protection and safety glasses, may be required.
