Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer
Reports To: Plant Director
Work Location: On-site
Status: Non-Exempt
Full Time/Part Time: Full-time
Position Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for maintaining and developing best practices for production on a product line that is being relocated to this plant from their sister plant in Europe. This includes but is not limited to: updating drawings for parts and tooling, troubleshooting machine problems, development of standard work, and participating in lean production activities. The Engineer will serve as an integral team member within the Manufacturing Engineering Group, reporting to the Plant Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Evaluates and recommends changes in methods and procedures in assigned area of responsibility.
- Assesses new manufacturing technologies for potential investment.
- Specify and assist in the specification, procurement, and installation of machinery and tooling.
- Design tooling, fixtures, and inspection equipment through the use of 3D solid modeling and 2D drafting software.
- Provide support in the form of troubleshooting tooling and machinery problems.
- Assists in the development of maintenance (TPM) plans and instructions for all machinery in the department.
- Performs other special projects/tasks assigned by management.
- Participates in continuous improvement or problem/solving activities.
- Assist in the development and upkeep of Standard Work.
- Complete additional duties as assigned by manager.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering Technology preferred.
- Understanding of Lean manufacturing basics (8 Wastes, TPM, Kaizen, SMED).
- Familiarity with 3D CAD software, Solid Edge a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Able to function in a highly collaborative environment and interact positively and openly with employees, supervisors and other departments.
- Able to work constructively in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment.
- Familiarity with BOM, Routings, and Time Studies.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Self-starter attitude and ownership mentality for projects.
- Willingness to continuously learn and expand responsibilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively with Manager Reliability and Manufacturing Engineering.
- Ability to meet strict deadlines within a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for computer work, data entry, and handling documents.
- Must be able to occasionally lift or move items up to 25 pounds, such as files, boxes, or product samples.
- Visual acuity to review detailed reports, tooling specifications, CAD drawings, and inventory data on screens and in print.
- Clear verbal communication skills to coordinate with suppliers, production staff, and logistics partners.
Environmental Requirements:
- Primarily based in production and warehouse areas.
- Exposure to a manufacturing environment that may include noise, temperature variations, and moving equipment.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, safety vest, and steel-toed shoes when on the shop floor or near loading docks.
