Tool Design Engineer – Hybrid (Queens Area)

e are partnering with a well-established, global manufacturer seeking a Tool Design Engineer to support the development of custom tooling, fixtures, and automated assembly equipment for high-volume mechanical and electromechanical products.
This role sits within a centralized engineering group responsible for both product development and manufacturing process design, offering a unique opportunity to design the equipment that directly drives production across multiple facilities.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Design and develop tools, fixtures, nests, and custom equipment for manufacturing and assembly processes
- Lead tooling efforts from concept through build, validation, and implementation
- Collaborate with manufacturing, design, and controls engineers to optimize product design for manufacturability
- Support new product launches, including integration into production environments
- Work with external vendors and tool builders to ensure designs meet performance and quality standards
- Troubleshoot tooling issues and perform root-cause analysis to drive continuous improvement
- Contribute to development of semi-automated assembly systems and production testers
- Select appropriate materials and define heat treatment and machining requirements
- Train production teams on proper tooling and equipment usage
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related)
- 5+ years of experience in tool design or manufacturing engineering
- Strong experience with 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
- Background in designing fixtures, tooling, or assembly equipment
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, machining, and automation
- Experience working cross-functionally with engineering and production teams
Nice to Have:
- Exposure to electromechanical products (sensors, motors, actuators, etc.)
- Familiarity with controls integration (pneumatic, electrical, hydraulic systems)
- Experience with semi-automated equipment or testing systems
