Injection Molding | Process Engineer

Specializes in designing and implementing the manufacturing processes for the injection molding department. Driver of safety, continuous improvement objectives, quality control standards, and process activities for engineering technicians and process technicians. Supports the improvement of operations and reducing operating costs.

• Provide support and direction to Process Engineers, PE technicians, process technicians, and production personnel as needed
• Develop and maintain injection molding processes and new manufacturing methods
• Provide course of action for manufacturing issues, out-of-control processes, and quality discrepancies
• Applying root cause analysis practice to solve problems
• Gather and analyze data for understanding and guiding improvement plans for key process indicators including quality, scrap, cycle time, and cost reduction
• Support standardization of equipment and procedures to meet Utz Global and Fit-4-Future initiatives
• Support new mold launches and samplings
• Key user of MES, Authentig, and remote maintenance
• Knowledge source for plant-wide system processes (i.e. Oni, Motan, etc.)
• Interface with various vendors for services, equipment, and capital improvement
• Maintain current documentation used and continue to develop new resources and SOP’s necessary to support process functions and maintain project deadlines
• Work closely with Injection Molding Manager to create and drive employee development plans for applicable team members.
• Provide on-sight training for technical staff as needed as part of employee development
• Assist in maintaining machines and equipment
• Part of a cross-functional team working with Maintenance, Tooling, Design Engineering, and Automation to address issues, complete project goals, and develop improvement ideas
• Capital improvement projects (selection, justification, quoting, installation) and working within budgetary requirements
• Other tasks as assigned by management

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree (Technical, Engineering) preferred Associate Degree considered
• 2 years of experience in injection molding process engineering or
• 7+ years of experience in injection molding process with aptitude to above requirements
• Must be able to communicate well with various team members and present information in a clear, concise manner to all aspects of the organization
• Must follow established company guidelines and perform duties in a satisfactory manner

Strategic Buyer Responsibilities:

• Oversee the sourcing and direct purchasing of raw materials needed for production while ensuring high quality of materials, optimal cost and quality, and on-time delivery
• Create, track, and update purchase orders in a timely manner with production schedules and inventory needs, and ensure ERP systems are up to date
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of purchase activities and ensure compliance with any relevant industry standards or company policies
• Track and audit performance of supplier(s) and address any issues with delivery, materials quality, or pricing
• Identify opportunities for cost saving by analyzing market trends, supplier capabilities, and other factors
• Support planning, quality, and engineering teams on material changes and new product launches
• Other duties, as needed

Strategic Buyer Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of experience with materials purchasing, preferably in manufacturing, automotive, or other related industries
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, or similar, OR equivalent combination of education and experience
• Prior experience with ISO/IATF standards and requirements
• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to work cross-functionally while balancing multiple priorities
• Ability to work well and collaboratively in a multicultural environment
• Proven experience with ERP systems utilization (preferably JD Edwards)

DESCRIPTION

The Engine Tuning Engineer is responsible for calibrating, optimizing, and validating diesel engine and aftertreatment control strategies to meet performance, fuel economy, emissions, and drivability targets. The role demands strong hands-on test cell experience and proactive troubleshooting of engine, aftertreatment, and test system issues throughout development and validation programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

• Lead calibration and tuning of diesel engine parameters including fuel injection timing and quantity, rail pressure, combustion phasing, air-path, EGR, boost control, and thermal management.
• Support aftertreatment calibration (DOC, DPF, SCR) with primary ownership on engine-out emissions.
• Plan and execute engine-centric test cell activities for calibration, tuning, and validation.
• Support Controls Engineer and Test Cell Technician to instrument engines and combustion measurement systems (pressure transducers, air/fuel flow, emissions).
• Troubleshoot engine performance, combustion, smoke, fuel consumption, and engine-out emissions issues.
• Diagnose control logic, calibration, and engine hardware issues observed during test cell operation.
• Use test cell data and Simulink model behavior to perform structured root cause analysis.
• Implement and validate corrective actions in control models and calibration datasets.
• Execute steady-state, transient, combustion, and regulatory test cycles.
• Strong understanding of Engine Controls in Simulink Models.

Experience:

• Strong expertise in diesel engine calibration and combustion fundamentals.
• Strong experience executing and supporting engine test cell activities, including steady-state, transient, combustion, and emissions testing.
• Hands-on engine test cell experience.
• Hands-on experience developing control system models in Simulink (must-have).
• Strong proficiency in MATLAB for engine and test data analysis (must-have).
• Proven troubleshooting capability across engine, controls, and calibration.
• Experience with calibration tools (ETAS INCA, ATI Vision, Vector CANape).
• Familiarity with engine test systems and DAQ

Qualifications & Education:

1. Master’s degree (preferred) in Internal Combustion Engines, Automotive Engineering, Controls Engineering, or Powertrain Systems.
2. 5–8 years of relevant experience in diesel engine calibration, tuning, and validation within engine test cell environments.
