Overview

This role supports a high-precision aerospace manufacturing organization known for craftsmanship, quality, and continuous improvement. The Engineering Supervisor works cross-functionally with Manufacturing Engineering, NC Programming, Quality, and Operations to improve processes, integrate new programs, and ensure consistent, compliant production. Position Responsibilities

• Serve as a key manufacturing engineering representative for new statements of work, new product integration, and process transitions.

• Collaborate with NC Programming, Operations, and Manufacturing Engineering on tooling and fixture design.
• Lead and support first-article and first-piece reviews alongside Quality, Engineering, Operations, and NC Programming.

• Interface with customers as needed to resolve engineering or producibility issues.
• Investigate and resolve manufacturing issues related to scrap, rework, or low profitability.
• Support estimating and quoting efforts by reviewing designs for manufacturability and risk.
• Provide shop-floor engineering support during first-article builds and process validation.
• Plan, direct, and coordinate technical activities while monitoring performance against budgets, schedules, and organizational goals.
• Play a strong leadership role in New Product Introduction (NPI) initiatives.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Sr Principal Engineer Air Breathing Propulsion to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA.

As an engineer supporting the Air Breathing Propulsion section, the selected candidate will support the design and analysis needs of unclassified and classified programs in Redondo Beach, California.  Candidate will interface with customers to define study areas and report status on current programs and technology development efforts.  Candidate may interface with their management and technical teams to define business relationships and technology initiatives for both IRAD (Internal Research and Development) and CRAD (Contractual Research and Development) efforts.  This position will support a variety of programs performing analysis and integration activities.

Basic Qualifications for a Sr Principal Engineer:

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 12 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in STEM with 10 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in STEM with 8 years of related engineering experience.
• Air Breathing Propulsion knowledge and experience on aircraft (subsonic, supersonic or hypersonic) or missile systems.
• Ability and willingness to travel 25% of the time.
• Must have an active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Education).
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position is responsible for day-to-day compliance of safety programs and related activities at the Vernon, CA facility.

Responsibilities:

• Environmental Compliance Programs:Ensure operations are compliant with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
• Conduct audits and training programs as needed.
• Establish a working relationship with appropriate regulatory agency personnel.

Expertise: Knowledge & Skills:

· 3+ years of hands-on experience in a Lean/Continuous Improvement, manufacturing, or operations engineering role.

· Strong working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing (5S, Value Stream Mapping, SMED, Poka-Yoke, Visual Management), Six Sigma (DMAIC, root cause analysis), and process mapping.

· Track record of driving real improvements, measurable cost savings, cycle time reductions, quality improvements.

· Experience creating and implementing Standard Work, SOPs, and operator-level training.

· Familiarity or experience with digital tools for shop floor (Power BI, Excel, Power Automate, digital checklists, etc.).

· Excellent communication, coaching, and facilitation skills; able to work at all levels from shop floor to leadership.

· Highly self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision, and thrives in a dynamic, hands-on environment.

· Certification in Lean, Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt), or equivalent experience is highly preferred.

You will work directly with aerospace and defense primes, OEMs, and government organizations to guide AM strategy, influence design decisions, and deliver advanced metal AM solutions for high-stakes missions. This role operates at a peer-to-peer level with senior customer engineers and plays a key part in shaping the future of AM adoption across critical defense and aerospace programs.

What You'll Do:

• Serving as the senior technical lead and trusted advisor for key aerospace and defense programs.
• Leading AM strategy, qualification plans, and adoption pathways across complex customer missions.
• Running technical design reviews, engineering workshops, and program strategy sessions with customer leadership.
• Translating mission and performance requirements into optimized metal AM solutions that balance cost, risk, and reliability.
• Developing high-impact proposals, white papers, and technical recommendations for advanced AM applications.
• Driving implementation of DfAM best practices, simulation-based optimization, and qualification approaches for mission-critical hardware.
• Working cross-functionally with business development, manufacturing, and quality teams on capture strategies and program execution.
• Acting as the primary technical interface from concept through qualification and production.
• Mentoring engineers and elevating the organization's customer-facing AM technical depth.
• Ensuring compliance with aerospace standards: AS9100D, NADCAP, MIL-SPEC, ITAR, and other regulatory requirements.

What You Need to Bring:

• Recognized expertise in metal additive manufacturing for aerospace and defense applications.
• A proven ability to influence design, qualification, and engineering decisions at primes, OEMs, and government agencies.
• Deep knowledge of LPBF/DMLS, DED, and hybrid AM processes and relevant alloys (Ti, Ni, Al, Cu).
• Strong background in aerospace materials science, metallurgy, and thermal-mechanical behavior of AM components.
• Proficiency in CAD (NX preferred), AM simulation tools, and FEA, with the ability to present technical findings clearly.
• Demonstrated success presenting to executive and non-technical customer stakeholders.
• Understanding of AS9100D, NADCAP, MMPDS, MIL-SPEC, and aerospace certification and qualification pathways.
• Leadership skills to mentor and guide engineering teams in both technical execution and customer engagement.
• Bachelor's degree required (Mechanical, Aerospace, or Materials Engineering).
• Master's degree preferred.
• 10+ years in aerospace/defense AM engineering, advanced design, or manufacturing applications.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET Security Clearance (required for employment).

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role located in Gardena, CA, for a Project Engineer. The Project Engineer will oversee and manage engineering projects, including project planning, coordination, and execution. Responsibilities also include ensuring technical standards are met, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and maintaining clear communication with stakeholders. The role involves applying engineering principles to support successful project outcomes while adhering to timelines and budgets.

Responsibilities

• Assist Project Manager(s) in planning project scope, schedule, manpower, and resource allocations.
• Coordinate between design team, contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure all parties have the latest documents and information.
• Interpret design drawings, specifications, and codes; provide technical guidance and clarification to field teams.
• Prepare, track, and process Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, and change orders.
• Support budget tracking, cost control, and change order management processes.
• Maintain up-to-date project documentation, including RFI logs, submittal logs, and equipment procurement schedules.
• Assist in procurement activities, including preparing purchase requisitions, comparing supplier quotations, and tracking deliveries.
• Work with the accounting team to prepare project billings, review subcontractor payment applications, and support project financial reporting.
• Monitor construction progress, perform site visits, and verify that work aligns with project plans, schedules, and quality standards.
• Participate in job walks, punch list reviews, site inspections, and safety walks.
• Act as a liaison between office engineering/management staff and field construction teams, ensuring accurate communication of design revisions, clarifications, and changes.
• Support pre-commissioning and commissioning activities with contractors, vendors, and project teams.
• Ensure accurate closeout deliverables, including as-built drawings, O&M manuals, warranties, and turnover documents.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of project goals and company objectives.

Salary Range

• $60,000 – $100,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
