About the Team

The primary responsibility of the Logistics Modeling team is to intelligently and efficiently plan how CarMax moves vehicles across its nationwide network. Each year, CarMax completes over 2 million vehicle moves, and our data scientists develop algorithms that determine which moves are executed by CarMax and which are handled by third-party logistics partners. For the moves CarMax completes, the team generates detailed plans specifying exactly which vehicles each driver will transport and when. To be successful, these plans must optimize efficiency while ensuring vehicles arrive on time to meet customer and operational needs.

• Experience in Heavy Civil Construction (highways, roads, bridges, structures, support of excavation, cast-in-place and pile foundations, underground utility systems, site work, and environmental; wastewater treatment plants a plus).

JOB TITLE: On Road Mechanic – Service Technician

LOCATION: Service and warranty work in and around Raleigh, NC area

FLSA STATUS: Non Exempt *Must be 25 years old

BASIC FUNCTION:

Responsible for repairing and maintaining heavy trucks in accordance with Company policy, legal requirements; warranty repairs, repair of mechanical issues; write up orders for parts to complete repairs; repair reusable parts. Visits customer’s work site and does on site repairs. Tests new units in test bay.

MAJOR DUTIES:

1. Maintain and repair all types of on road heavy trucks.

2. Using service manuals to determine proper troubleshooting techniques.

3. Write orders for parts to complete repairs so billing can be done properly.

4. Evaluate parts for reusability and the cause of failure.

5. Repair, mount, tires, brakes, trailer components, engine, and transmissions as needed.

6. Perform other duties as assigned and required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma, experience repairing and maintaining heavy trucks.
  • Mechanical skills, math and science skills.
  • Two – five years’ experience on diesel engines and transmissions, components.
  • Must be able to use diagnostic equipment and interpret results.
  • Must use hand tools, power tools
  • Must be able to climb, crawl, kneel, walk, stand for long periods of time, lift and carry 75 pounds regularly and 100 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Regular twisting, pulling, pushing forces associated with use of hand tools
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions
  • Operation of a motor vehicle
  • Valid Drivers’ License

Summary/Objective:

The Structural Engineer position is primarily focused on mechanical structures and supports for our industrial and commercial divisions (local and national accounts). This position works closely with our Project Leaders and our in-house design teams to provide designs and concepts along with professional guidance when needed. This may include leading or participating in discussions with other stakeholders on designs including stamping any self-performing work. Site visits are expected to collect information on design builds and other verifications from time to time.



Essential Functions:

  • Provide structural guidance during estimating toward the development of project proposals
  • Review project scopes to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards
  • Performs structural analysis and designs for a variety of projects with a focus on but limited to mechanical platforms, supports, and racks for large commercial and industrial projects.
  • Prepare, review, and stamp structural drawings, calculations, and specifications.
  • Collaborate with architects, project managers, and other engineering disciplines to develop integrated project solutions.
  • Provide leadership and support for the structural department.
  • Oversee the creation and development of structural models on self-performing and design assist projects in Revit and/or Tekla to coordinate between structures, and other disciplines.
  • Conducts shop and/or field investigations for site conditions and inspections.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering preferably structural or civil focused
  • Active PE license in Virginia (Structural focused preferred), or SE licensed preferred
  • 5+ years of structural industrial experience to include any combination of crane design & guidelines or foundations is preferred or other related experience or education in combination
  • Work in house at our Richmond VA headquarters
  • Proficient with structural design software including implementation and management of programs such as STRUDL or other equivalent software.
  • Strong knowledge of IBC. ACI, AISC, and other applicable codes/standards
  • Intermediate knowledge of Revit and/or Tekla (Tekla is preferred or willingness to learn Tekla)
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office applications, including Bluebeam Revu
  • Comfortable working with 3D environments using the Navisworks platform and point cloud scans
  • Superior communication and interpersonal (tact, diplomacy, influence, etc.) skills are essential to this role
  • Must be able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail and demonstrate problem-solving skills
  • Must adhere to all company policy and procedures
  • Must be available to work assigned schedules
