THE OPPORTUNITY

Michelin is recruiting an Mechanical Design Engineer to work on developing the next generation of equipment for tire testing and beyond. You will join a team dedicated to designing & upgrading testing machines to improve the performance of our products.

Your mission will include working with automation and software engineers where you will develop or modify equipment to properly run the test methods. Our team supports tire designers and test method developers. Our goal is to provide accurate data to our business partners so they can make proper decisions during the tire development process.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Invent, develop, industrialize, procure, and/or install machinery, tools, and equipment related to the testing of tires (on vehicles and on machines) and materials for tires.

Modify and improve tire-test and material-test equipment.

Manage projects for the purchase of machines/equipment for the testing departments. Follow Michelin project approach through the project stages including:

• Opportunity Study, Feasibility Study, Risk Analysis, Solution Selection & Development, Installation and Startup, Homologation & Qualification, ROI

Study, select, and purchase equipment and components from outside suppliers which will provide solutions to problems (or desired outcomes) presented by the testing departments.

Collaborate with personnel from various departments including operations, maintenance, test engineers, tire design engineers, purchasing, IT, and management.

Use 3D modeling software (SolidWorks) for developing parts, assemblies, and drawings. Use SolidWorks Simulation tools as required to guarantee integrity of parts and assemblies.

Occasional travel to outside vendors for equipment evaluation/acceptance and to other Michelin sites for equipment startup/installation.

Select and manage contractors and outside vendors performing on-site work.

Analyze data from tire test equipment as required to troubleshoot problems or to improve confidence in test results. Develop an understanding of how tire behavior and measurement can affect the final results. Consider and apply these findings in the development/ procurement/ modification of test equipment.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

• BS or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering
• 3 -5 years' experience designing equipment; project management.
• Knowledge of Solid works, AutoCAD, Microsoft office.
• Good communication skills at every level of the organization

We’re seeking a hands-on Test Technician with a solid technical foundation and strong troubleshooting abilities to support our electronic product testing operations. The ideal candidate will have formal training, certifications, or education in electronics and a working knowledge of Ohm’s Law, schematic reading, and electrical power systems. This role focuses on real-world testing, debugging, and validation.

Job Duties:

• Conduct electrical and electronic tests to verify performance, functionality, and compliance with production quality standards.
• Troubleshoot and debug issues at the component, board, and system levels using schematics and test equipment.
• Develop, maintain, and improve test and burn-in processes to ensure reliability and throughput.
• Review and update process specifications and documentation to ensure accuracy and alignment with current practices.
• Monitor yields and identify root causes of test failures, coordinating corrective actions with engineering and quality teams.
• Support the design, setup, and validation of new test fixtures, jigs, and diagnostic tools.
• Perform firmware flashing, system configuration, and multi-unit hardware interconnects (Ethernet/BNC/twisted pair).
• Set up and test complex disk arrays or power distribution assemblies as required.
• Maintain preventive maintenance and calibration schedules for all test equipment.
• Drive recovery and repair efforts for any downed test or burn-in stations, coordinating across maintenance and engineering teams.

Qualifications:

• Associate degree, technical diploma, or equivalent military/electronics training required.

• Drive resolution through support or execution of lifetime buys, selections of alternate parts, redesign efforts or other mitigation strategies and will facilitate and support contract negotiations, basis of estimates, and supplier statements of work for proposal efforts. 

• Interact with Program and customer leadership on a regular basis to communicate status of mitigation strategies. 

• Conduct trade study analysis help identify cost effective obsolescence driven cut in points for proposed unit redesigns.

Qualifications You Must Have:  

• Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience with any combination of the following:

• Experience with proactive and reactive component obsolescence management methodologies. 

• Experience with data collection, analysis, and presentation skills to adequately discuss system impact of component obsolescence issues. 

• Experience with project management working with schedules, costs, and integration of stakeholder needs throughout the obsolescence process. 

• Financial and Contract Management experience with proposals, BOE, EVMs, SOWs, CLINs and CDRLs. 

• Experience with BOM (Bill of Material) development and management for developmental and production programs. 

• Risk and Opportunity business case analysis experience supporting sustainment vs redesign cut in decisions. 

Qualifications We Prefer:  

• Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or other related science or engineering discipline 

• Ability to navigate multiple complex processes and tools. 

• Understanding of the application of technical theories and concepts as they apply to electronic components and the parts management field.
