Lead Android Engineer

Our Fortune 500 retail client is seeking a hands-on Lead Android Engineer to drive technical excellence and innovation across their mobile platform. This role will help evolve a mature Android application while delivering high-quality experiences that support millions of customers across eCommerce, loyalty, personalization, and product launches.

The team is focused on differentiating the mobile app from the web experience through personalized content, contextual assistance, and intelligent upsell opportunities. This role requires someone who has made architectural decisions, influenced technical direction, and led implementation — not just executed against predefined designs.

This is not a pure architect role, but it requires strong architectural judgment combined with deep hands-on development expertise.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as a hands-on technical leader within the Android team.
• Design, build, and enhance Android applications using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
• Make informed architectural decisions within an established Android application using MVVM and Clean Architecture principles.
• Guide the implementation of new features in alignment with scalable, maintainable architecture standards.
• Partner closely with the Mobile Architect while owning day-to-day technical decision-making for the Android team.
• Act as the go-to technical resource for Android engineers, helping answer implementation questions and remove blockers.
• Integrate and manage third-party SDKs and libraries, understanding dependency management, versioning conflicts, and potential performance implications.
• Implement API integrations and evaluate libraries needed to support new functionality.
• Contribute to proof-of-concepts (POCs) that explore innovative mobile capabilities and customer engagement strategies.
• Develop personalization features that differentiate the app experience from the web.
• Implement and optimize push notification capabilities to drive engagement and upsell opportunities.
• Strengthen application stability by implementing unit tests and embedding automated quality checks within the CI/CD pipeline from the Android codebase.
• Participate in production incident management and provide technical leadership during issue resolution.
• Conduct thorough PR reviews, promote code quality standards, and ensure proper documentation.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to improve efficiency and elevate engineering practices.
• Stay current with Android ecosystem trends and proactively recommend improvements.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of hands-on Android development experience.
• 5+ years of Kotlin development experience.
• Strong experience with Jetpack Compose.
• Proven experience making architectural decisions within an existing Android application.
• Hands-on experience implementing MVVM and Clean Architecture principles.
• Experience integrating third-party SDKs and adding libraries within complex Android projects.
• Experience implementing REST API integrations and managing dependencies.
• Strong unit testing experience and experience improving application stability.
• Experience contributing to accessibility (ADA) improvements.
• Hands-on experience with Google Play Console, including publishing and maintaining Android applications.
• Experience working in Agile development environments.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship and able to convert to a full-time W-2 employee upon completion of the contract.

About the Company

For these specific roles, we are looking for engineers familiar with Cyber Threat Intelligence/Threat Hunting tools and procedures. Secondary skills in other areas listed below are highly desirable. We want team members who will take ownership of issues and drive them to resolution, not simply perform tasks as assigned. You will work with and act as a subject matter expert (SME) on at least one specialization within the Cyber Defense Operations domain. You will participate in investigations into security incidents and violations, and will thus be responsible for sensitive information relevant to employees, contractors, vendors, etc. of the company. About the Role

Key player on a team responsible for all aspects of Cyber Defense within the company. Will be a SME in at least one area listed below and are expected to have full professional knowledge of security concepts and company objectives to resolve a wide range of issues in effective and sometimes creative ways, in all of the following domains.

• Perform risk quantification and third-party risk management reviews as required.
• Perform cyber security platform testing, and work with other teams to ensure vulnerability remediation and operating system hardening to reduce attack surface.
• Assist in performing proof-of-concept testing for cyber defense solutions under consideration for purchase and implementation.
• Work with senior engineers in identifying cyber security products and technologies that can enhance the company’s mission by providing appropriate protection for all data in our environment, or sent or received to/from various public or private clouds, or the Internet at large.
• Consistently demonstrate the company Leadership Principles for Cyber Defense Operations team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field
• 5 years of related experience with Bachelor’s, 3 years with Master’s

Required Skills

• Experience with at least one major SOAR and one major SIEM product
• Familiarity with operation of other security devices (firewall, proxy server, VPN, IPS, etc.)
• Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP protocols
• At least one entry-level vendor-neutral certification in the Information Security arena or equivalent experience

Preferred Skills

Responsibilities:

• Manage the Global Product Stewardship organization of approximately 30 employees in multiple regions around the world.
• Ensure global product regulatory compliance, hazard communication, product safety/product risk management across all business lines in all regions.
• Ensure Product Risk Management (PRM) process is used appropriately to mitigate risk especially in regulated end uses such as medical, pharmaceutical, food contact, etc..

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, chemistry, or relevant field
• 15+ total years of experience, 8+ years of experience in product stewardship
• Experience leading global product stewardship/regulatory affairs teams.
• Expertise in regulated end uses at global level particularly for food contact, medical, pharma.
• Extensive knowledge of global chemical regulatory requirements (i.e. TSCA, REACH) and industry best practices

Primary Role

The Assistant Director - Construction & Architectural Design serves as the backup and second-in-command to the Director - Construction & Architectural Design, while directly managing commercial design-build projects.

This role supports team leadership and process optimization, ensuring efficient project execution across multiple markets, including scheduling, budgeting, stakeholder management, and driving operational excellence.
