Are you ready to further your career in Dialysis with both adult and pediatric patients and apheresis? MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's Dialysis and Apheresis Units are looking for passionate and skilled nurses to join our team! Our hospital is located on Georgetown University's campus.
Unit Description
MedStar Georgetown's 2 South is a five bed Acute Dialysis Unit and a three bed Apheresis Unit. When working in Dialysis nurses provide hemodialysis treatments to admitted patients throughout MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. While most patients receive treatment on 2 South, nurses from the unit will travel to the ICU to provide hemodialysis to critically ill patients at the bedside.
When working in Apheresis, nurses perform Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Collections and therapeutic treatments such as plasma and red cell exchange and photopheresis. Nurses on 2 South are active in Collaborative Governance throughout the hospital and are encouraged to participate in professional development opportunities through coaching and mentoring.
Qualifications
- ADN, BSN, MSN, or CNL from an accredited School of Nursing required.
- At least one year of hospital-based RN experience in Dialysis is required.
- Active DC RN License and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers required (AHA or American Red Cross).
Education
- BSN Preferred. Will consider candidates enrolled in a BSN program.
- CDN or CNN Certification preferred (Certified Dialysis Nurse or Certified Nephrology Nurse).
Schedule
- Self-scheduling; Six week schedules
- For 40 hr/wk schedule Monday to Friday, either 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM or 10:00 AM - 8:30 PM, and Saturday 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM. There are no Sunday shifts
- For 36hr/wk 7am to 7:30pm
- On-call will be 4-6 times per cut off (typically once a week) and 1 Saturday and 1 Sunday (depending on staffing).
- On call pay $10/hr

Provides evaluation and physical therapy treatment in accordance with agency standards the laws and regulations governing the provision of physical therapy services in the state of Maryland District of Columbia or Virginia and other regulatory requirements.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Analyzes and documents patients and family's response to interventions. Evaluates measurable progress toward goals and revise the plan of care. Identifies and modifies underlying factors that impede progress toward goals. Makes recommendations for updates in plan of care using knowledge of interventions and resources.Establishes and documents teaching plan for patients/families based on patients' level of knowledge diagnosis prescribed treatment and available resources. Communicates (verbal written demonstration) respectfully with patients/families supervisor peers and other health team members. Establishes visit schedule and informs patient/family and team supervisor.Contributes to the achievement of established goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Completes annual Code of Conduct Compliance and other mandatory training.Implements an effective physical therapy treatment plan in conjunction with the patient their family/caregiver the patient's physician and other members of the health care team and modifying treatment plan as needed.Evaluation includes interview observation palpation specialized assessments including but not limited to goniometry muscle strength testing and sensory testing. Such assessments require use of tools (e.g. goniometer sphygmomanometer stethoscope) and the possession of sight and hearing senses or the use of prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately.Independently implements and documents plan of care for patients with a routine to complex problems to facilitate continuity of care. Documented interventions are related to planning of care. Interventions reflect the standard of care for patient condition/diagnosis. Interventions include utilizing agency and community resources. Performs therapy interventions consistent with home care protocols. Interventions reflect knowledge of standard home care supplies and equipment used inpatient care.Independently organizes patient assignments for completion of tasks within acceptable time frames. Submits completed admission records within 48 hours and daily records within 24 hours with a Ninety-five percent accuracy on technical audit. Recertification completed prior to recert date. Maintains caseload mix and productivity for acuity level of patients.Initiates and participates in regularly scheduled case conferences; includes all disciplines. Includes patient and family in mutual goal setting and care plan revision.Maintains effective working relationships with other departments and participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams. Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and agency in community outreach efforts. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists/scrubs in with physician during routine to complex invasive diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac and vascular procedures. Prepares catheters balloons guiding wires etc. to physician as needed.
- Prepares cleans and drapes appropriate site prior to invasive procedure ensuring a sterile field according to Association of Operating Room Nurse (AORN) standards.
- Enters required patient data into the computer connects electrocardiograph (EKG) and pulse oximeter monitors. Provides physical and psychological comfort to patients prior to during and post-procedure.
- Monitors electrocardiograph (ECG) blood pressure and other hemodynamic parameters during procedure in the Cardiac Catherization Laboratory (CCL).
- Assists with intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) other cardiac assist devices and sets-up/removes arterial and venous lines as needed in the CCL CCU and ICU. Draws arterial blood gases (ABG) as requested by physician. Performs activated coagulation time tests to determine appropriate arterial/venous sheaths removal. Accompanies and monitors patient during transports.
- Prepares/cleans arranges and stocks room/equipment for next procedure. Maintains and stocks inventory such as catheters defibrillators monitors and temporary pacemakers. Provides monitors/external pacemakers to various locations within the hospital.
- Document required data prior to during and post-procedure and enters appropriate codes/charges/equipment used into computer for statistical/billing reports.
- Discharges/transports patients from procedure room. Communicates/instructs patient regarding post procedure site care instructions and precautions as appropriate.

- 262-bed level 2 trauma hospital supporting 12 ORs.
- Has orthopedics, general surgery, gynecological surgery, urology, ENT, neurosurgery, trauma, and labor & delivery.
- Opportunity to do Cardiac Anesthesia exists.

Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of CT scanners and related equipment in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures. Position patients for CT scans using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist radiologist with imaging procedures starting IV's and injecting contrast if applicable.
- Assist radiologist with interventional CT procedures.
- Evaluate CT scans for technical quality collate processed images in sequence of exposure and appropriately label. Film transmits to PACS.
- Charge procedures and supplies correctly.
- Assists in the administration and administers various chemical substances to render specific organs or systems more opaque. Dispense oral contrast to patients for CT scans.
- Reviews patient charts and requests with the radiologist to ensure the proper examination and diagnostic results are obtained.
- Quality controls all images maintains inventory and adheres to safety regulations. Participates in training of department personnel including students.
- Load and operate power injections for contrast media administration.
- Maintain accurate patient records.
- Assist with providing orientation and training to new CT technologists.
- Manage scheduling and patient flow on multiple interventional CT scanners.
- Assist with research and development with CT equipment manufacturer to develop new CT software and new technologies when asked.
- Participate in research initiatives and development of research protocols.
- Monitor charging of CT procedures and supplies daily to ensure correctness.
- Participates in inter or intra departmental performance improvement.
- Accepts patients and assesses their condition to determine proper handling and special requirements. Explains and prepares the patient for the exam requested.
- Relies on extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology to obtain the maximum diagnostic image corresponding to body parts.
- Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety department safety and specific job-related hazards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimal Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Current Maryland State License required
Licenses and Certifications
- ARRT required
- Certified Cat Scan Technologist required
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
- Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
