Unit Description: The Cardiovascular Unit provides professional nursing care to out-patients for planned procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Electrophysiology Lab, Non-Invasive Cardiology, Interventional Radiology Lab, and a variety of Radiology procedures. This dynamic 15 bay unit provides Pre- and Post-Procedural care. You will be part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team dedicated to patient & family-centered care with responsibility for treating a diverse patient population. We are a Level I Tertiary care hospital, providing care with state-of-the-art technology. You will be part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team dedicated to patient & family-centered care. We also support the professional development of our nurses, providing opportunities for education through conferences and Board Certification. Our nurses also have the opportunity to advance through the Clinical Advancement and Recognition Program (CARP). Our unit is open Monday-Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Job Title: Cath Lab Registered Nurse
Responsible for performing assessments, developing a plan of care, implementing and evaluating the care. The RN administers medications and treatments as ordered by physicians and in keeping with the current clinical nursing practice. Overview
Opened in 2007, Progress West Hospital is BJC HealthCareβs newest hospital in St. Charles County, featuring modern private rooms. It offers 24-hour emergency services and has partnered with St. Louis Childrenβs Hospital to provide world-class pediatric emergency care.
Progress West Hospital also provides surgical services, endoscopy services, a cardiac catheterization lab, medical/surgical inpatient services, diagnostic imaging, lab services, and the Advanced Wound Center, a specialty wound treatment facility with state-of-the-art equipment. Progress West Hospital recently completed an expansion of its Childbirth Center to include enhanced services for at-risk mothers and babies, with a newborn ICU that provides care for babies born as early as 32 weeks.
Progress West Hospital is a Certified Level II Stroke Center. The hospitalβs medical office building houses offices for specialists in primary care, cardiology, obstetrics, pediatrics, and orthopedics.
The Cardiac Cath Lab opened in the Summer of 2011 focusing on diagnostic testing. Interventional services will added late Summer, early Fall of 2011. This department, along with all departments within the hospital, supports the guiding principles of the hospital in providing care that is customized and reflects the patient's needs, values, and choices.

Role Purpose
The Advanced Modality Special Procedures Technologist - CCL/IR/Neuro performs a variety of complex, specialized tasks in all cardiac, vascular, neuroradiology angiographic and interventional procedures for the purpose of diagnosis and/or treatment of anatomic and physiologic disorders.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate subject matter expertise for the operation, maintenance, quality assurance and troubleshooting of all radiographic equipment used in the cardiac, vascular, neuroradiology and interventional procedures.
- Scrubs and surgically assists physician during, cardiac, vascular, neuroradiology angiographic and interventional procedures to include: maintaining sterile field, handling of instruments and supplies, participates in placement/implantation of catheters, guide wires and medical devices (ie stents, intra-aortic balloon pump, pacemakers, lead revisions, etc.) operating and monitoring equipment and bi-plane table, and alerts physician to changes in patient condition.
- Performs specialized radiographic imaging examinations to make special study radiographs of designated body portions in accordance with radiation safety procedures.
- Prepare and position patients and select anatomic and technical parameters accurately to ensure most optimal patient outcome.
- BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.

Essential Functions:
Under the direction of a qualified manager or technologist: If applicable, performs accurate patient registration / including knowledge of insurance codes and billing procedures. If applicable, performs order entry / transcription of orders, routing of orders and cancellations per established procedures. Accurately communicates information such as test results, normal ranges, and specimen requirements to authorized sources in a timely manner and per customer request. Brings any problems of a technical nature to the attention of the supervising staff. or Section Supervisor. Maintains a clean, neat work area during and at end of scheduled work period, including communicating pending work information at shift change. Inventories supplies as requested, helps with reβsupply and reports shortages to Section Supervisor. Keeps up to date with laboratory practices, procedures, and techniques. Assists in training by demonstrating techniques or methods, when requested. Performs phlebotomy as required with recognition of the need of timely specimen collection in patient care.
Verifies all specimen identification and related orders when dealing with specimens drawn or received. Follows established procedures for collecting and processing biological specimens for analysis. Is knowledgeable and complies with all procedures for specimen collection and processing. Properly organizes, prioritizes, and distributes incoming laboratory workload with appropriate department notification. Maintains a professional, mature positive attitude while on the job. May be required to work holidays, weekends, evenings, or night shift depending on job assignment. Observes proper safety practice in performing job duties. Follows Guthrie Clinic and lab policies and procedures. Complies with state and federal regulatory rules and regulations. Performs other duties as assigned, to include but not limited to typing, filing, answering telephones, and other duties as needed. For NY lab sites May be required to work on and off hospital campus
May be required to use own vehicle, with mileage compensation in performance of job duties. May be required to be onβcall. Competently performs assigned analytical tests or procedures that require limited independent judgment, referring questions to supervisory personnel as appropriate. Testing may be automated, semiβautomated or manual. Recognizes factors that affect measurement and results and takes appropriate action according to predetermined protocols or referring questions if a determination cannot be made. Recognizes equipment malfunctions, performs basic troubleshooting and notifies appropriate supervisory personnel. Recognizes abnormal and critical results, and communicates and documents them per procedures and refers them to designated supervisory personnel Operates instruments within the scope of training, utilizing established protocols and quality control checks.
Performs and documents quality control procedures relevant to the situation. Checks work against established quality control standards of performance. Performs and documents maintenance checks and adjustments on all appropriate instruments and equipment. Will inform charge personnel or supervising technologist of potential need of repairs, after performing basic troubleshooting.

The EP Lab nurse will work closely in a sterile environment with the interdisciplinary team to perform the following procedures:
Permanent Pacemaker Implantation, BivICD, BiV pacemakers and Micra pacemaker
Ablations- Atrial fibrillation/Flutter and Cryo-Ablations
SVT, Ventricular tachycardia
Loop Recorder Watchmen Implantation

POSITION SUMMARY
A Medical Technologist is responsible for conducting laboratory tests which provide information to physicians for the diagnosis, prevention or treatment of diseases in patients.
