Role Objective:

Deploy one (1) engineer to provide full vehicle CAE model build and ongoing support for battery pack CAE models across Structural Safety, Durability, and NVH domains. The engineer will build, update, debug, and deliver analysis-ready battery pack models integrated to the vehicle BIW, in accordance with Purchaser-provided standards for numbering, mesh criteria, and joining methodology.

Key Responsibilities / Scope of Services

Develop and maintain battery pack CAE models for each major build release including:

Durability models in Abaqus or OptiStruct template (per Purchaser requirement).

LS-DYNA durability sub-models for the battery system (e.g., Ground Strike, Top Strike).

NVH structural battery models in OptiStruct, including full pack content and BIW integration.

Structural Safety LS-DYNA crash models (homogenized sub-assemblies and/or higher fidelity per program phase).

Build full battery model content as required (structure, plastics, HV network, adhesives, potting) and connect to BIW using subsystem include files and master connection files (including BIW-to-subsystem connection files).

Ensure subsystems are massed per BOM; represent non-modeled content using NSM cards / mass elements and manage trimmed mass and CoG targets as required.

Implement joining representations per Purchaser standards (weld/bond/bolt); represent major bolted joints with solid bolt models and preload where required.

Deliver 0 ms LS-DYNA model debugged to pass error-free model checks; include required instrumentation (force X-sections on major load paths, accelerometers at specified locations).

Support high-fidelity explicit pack models as requested (e.g., cells, cooling plates/features, busbars, vents) and provide de-contented variants when required.

Delivery & Reporting Requirements

Deliver models in compliance with the Purchaser Model Checklist and provide a Seller delivery checklist confirming model run-readiness and documenting any deviations.

Report with each full vehicle CAE model delivery: global energy, mass scaling, and total model mass (as applicable to the domain).

Maintain consistent mesh quality and alignment across domains where required.

Minimum Qualifications (Deployed Engineer)

Demonstrated experience building vehicle CAE models, with battery pack focus preferred.

Proficiency in LS-DYNA, OptiStruct, and Abaqus (as applicable) including model assembly, BIW integration, connections/includes, and debugging.

Strong capability in mesh quality, BOM massing/NSM, joints modeling (weld/bond/bolt), and checklist-driven delivery discipline.

* Manage the US admitted filings and supporting the filing process for wordings and endorsements.

* Coordinate projects and work collaboratively with other key stakeholders internally, including but not limited to Compliance, Claims, Conduct Risk, UW Controls and Operations, Specialty Risks, Marketing and IT.

* Monitor competitive landscapes for the continuous improvement or wordings and underwriting controls.

* Participate in Team/Focus Group Business Planning, Away Days, Broker/Client meetings and other Marketing events, as required and appropriate.

* Provide assistance with additional projects and/or legal services (if qualified) for Business Management, Specialty Risks or other Beazley teams, as needed.

* Monitor claims developments and impact of wording on claims.

POTISION SUMMARY: Controls Engineers are responsible for designing, developing, installing, and maintaining equipment used to monitor and control systems, equipment and processes. They work in various industries including building management systems, power system automation and protection systems. Controls engineers are technical experts in areas such as advanced process control, instrumentation, distributed control systems, PLCs, and SCADA systems. Controls engineers use these skills to design and implement solutions to our customers' complex needs.

Specific areas of expertise for this position include monitoring and control systems in Data Centers and /or mission critical environments. Experience in Building Automation Systems (BASS) and field device configuration such as field level controllers, PLCs, protocol converters, and SCADA/HMI software. Experience in Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) and configuration/programming of electrical gear interfaces is beneficial.

Technical Responsibilities


  • Design / Engineering

    • Assists Senior Engineers in design documents for SCADA/Automation projects

      • Developing design document narratives

Key Responsibilities


  • R&D Leadership & Technology Scouting:
  • Lead R&D efforts to identify and evaluate emerging technologies (e.g., sustainable refrigerants, high-efficiency heat pumps, advanced controls, IoT integration) relevant to the future of HVAC.
  • Initiate and manage research projects focused on enhancing system performance, energy efficiency, and cost reduction.
  • Design & Validation:
  • Apply core expertise in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics to design novel HVAC components and systems.
  • Rapidly develop and build proof-of-concept prototypes.
  • Conduct rigorous testing, simulation (CFD/FEA), and analysis to validate new designs, ensuring alignment with performance goals and regulatory standards (e.g., AHRI, Energy Star).
  • NPI & Manufacturing Integration:
  • Act as the critical link between R&D and Manufacturing Operations, driving the smooth transition of innovations from lab to production floor.
  • Ensure Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and scalability, collaborating closely with production engineering and supply chain teams.
  • Intellectual Property (IP):
  • Generate comprehensive technical documentation and actively pursue the creation and protection of Intellectual Property (patents) resulting from innovation projects.


Qualifications


  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred).
  • Experience: 7+ years in HVAC R&D or a related manufacturing engineering environment is required.
  • Technical: Deep experience with HVAC system design and components. Proficiency in 3D CAD/CAE tools. Proven success in new product introduction (NPI) within a manufacturing setting.
