The Senior EHS Specialist is a key technical expert responsible for driving environmental, health, and safety excellence across a non-union, Class I Division 2 manufacturing environment. This senior individual contributor will lead critical compliance programs, oversee Process Safety Management (PSM) activities, and influence leadership and employees to strengthen the site’s safety culture. Success in this role requires deep knowledge of safety and environmental regulations, strong technical acumen, and the ability to collaborate effectively across operations.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other applicable regulations.
- Oversee compliance for manufacturing and lab operations, including RCRA hazardous waste, air emissions, industrial hygiene, occupational health, and EPA-mandated plans.
- Serve as the technical lead for maintaining and improving all 14 PSM elements in partnership with Engineering, Maintenance, and Production teams.

- Oversee completion and tracking of required EHS training for employees and contractors.
- Partner with department leaders to identify needs, approve qualified resources, and ensure compliance with training requirements.
- Prepare and submit timely regulatory filings, including OSHA incident logs, Tier II, SARA 313, RCRA, wastewater testing, and air emissions reports.
- Represent the facility during regulatory inspections, audits, and agency communications.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field; or equivalent experience.

- CSP and/or CIH certification preferred.

Job Description
This role will provide environmental, health, safety (EHS) support and perform a variety of EHS-related duties at the facilities located in Durham, North Carolina (specifically 1030, 1040 and 1050 Swabia, Parliament and the ARC in addition to Field Staff). • Manage the Durham site’s VPP Program application to successfully meet NC OSHA requirements for Carolina Star including hosting inspections, audits, document preparation, etc.
• Provide EHS expertise and support to dispersed workforce (e.g., technicians, sales force, veterinary staff, etc.) of Cattle, Poultry and Swine USA operations. Host monthly safety meetings with colleagues. Complete periodic ride-along visits to observe colleague’s field operations and ensure implementation of EHS programs. Responsible and accountable for delivery and implementation of the Cushman & Wakefield (CW) US Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Strategy for the Americas. Under the stewardship of the Head of EHS Americas the role will deliver measurable improvements in health, safety and environmental performance and engagement across the C&W organization, in support of business objectives. The role will specifically support Americas corporate offices, brokerage and Project & Development Service (PDS) lines across the Americas. The role will also support on Security and Quality matters in support of the wider global EHS Team. This is a senior corporate role which will directly report to the Head of EHS Americas and indirectly report to business unit heads within the relevant jurisdictions and service lines. The role will require an experienced professional who has held a similar role in a related industry and who is comfortable and confident in working and presenting at a senior level. - Lead investigation of near miss incidents, accidents, and injuries/illness in an effort to determine validity, root cause, and identify and follow through on adequate corrective action. Document fully using established processes and communicate to appropriate parties to prevent future incidents. Work in conjunction with HR to manage Worker’s Compensation claims with the intention to proactively manage and minimize employee time away from work.
- Track incidents using established processes and calculate safety metrics monthly in coordination with other departments. Broadcast metrics via established formats and methods. Complete OSHA 300 log annually and post during required posting period.
- Develop, maintain, continuously improve, and enforce Health and Safety Programs (written program, training programs, and all supporting content), as needed and applicable, which may include, but are not limited to: Aerial Work Platforms, Bloodborne Pathogens, Confined Space Entry, Contractor/Vendor, Crane/Hoist, Crystalline Silica, Emergency Action/Fire Prevention, Ergonomics, Fall Protection, First Aid / CPR / AED, HAZCOM, Chemical Safety & PPE, Health & Safety Auditing, Hearing Conservation, Heat Illness Prevention, Hexavalent Chromium, Hot Work, Incident Reporting, Industrial Hygiene, Job Hazard Analysis, Lab Chemical Safety, Loto / Electrical Safety / Arc Flash, Machine Guarding, Medical Records Mgmt., Powered Industrial Truck (Forklift), Radiation Safety, Radiation Safety, Respiratory Protection
- Maintain emergency preparedness by conducting drills to ensure readiness and protection of assets.
- Maintain contractor, vendor and visitor safety including procedures and equipment. Provide support during work tasks performed by contractors including coordinating communication of impacts to Anoplate staff and the work environment and provide periodic support throughout the duration of the site work.
- Evaluate the workplace environment and develop safety management policies that identify and define safety responsibilities for all employees.
- Walk the facility floor on a regular basis to establish EHS presence and provide support.
- Support the Director of EHS with regulatory and certification inspections (e.g., OSHA, DOL).
- Complete incident reports, work with internal parties to identify corrective actions, implement corrective actions, and communicate improvements.
- Review and analyze incident reports and data for accuracy and detail, ensuring corrective actions are fully implemented and effective.
- Maintain Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) by reviewing and updating annually for all positions.
- Manage inspections of critical equipment including fire extinguishers, sprinklers, eye wash stations, emergency showers, first aid kits and equipment, hoists, lighting and other critical emergency or high-risk equipment.
- Participate and lead Safety Committee, maintain minutes, and track follow-up actions.
- Identify, develop, conduct and maintain Health and Safety Training and materials. Review training documents as needed. Act as the lead for new hire EHS training coordination and delivery. Work with Training Department to coordinate EHS training for all employees.
- Coordinate scheduled and requested air / industrial hygiene monitoring events using appropriate equipment.
- Maintains all documents related to the Safety Management System.
- Coordinating the weekend security guard schedule with the security service provider weekly. Coordinating the weekend / holiday on-call schedule for Environmental Operations, Maintenance, IT, and Leadership / Management.
- Distribute on-call list to impacted/responsible parties and provide copy for guard service each week.
Your Education & Experience:
- At least 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Training
- 4 year college education in technical field (preferably industrial safety, environmental, or other related field of study)
- HAZWOPER 24- or 40-Hour Certification
- Lock Out Tag Out
- Basic Computer Skills: Limble CMMS, Outlook, Excel, Word, Powerpoint.
- Both written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to give directions and constructive feedback.
- Provide updates across 3 shifts in person and via multi-media.

- Must possess a high-level technical background in health and safety and exhibit strong team building and leadership ability. Trained to perform ergonomic assessments and have abroad based knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations.
- Above average planning, organizational skills, and attention to detail with the ability to prioritize effectively. Technical writing experience preferred.
- Able to read and write English.

- You will evaluate donor reaction(s), which occurs at the facility as outlined in the SOPs. Follow applicable SOPs for medical emergencies including the development of Center Physician's standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities.?
- You will refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs (as applicable) when in need of providing unacceptable findings to donors, or guidance concerning medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.?
- You will support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.?
- You will manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER. Refer to EHS guidance regarding employee incidents.?
