POSITION PROFILE

We're looking for a seasoned Engineer that's savvy with preventative maintenance and ongoing repairs to ensure our hotel is safe and comfortable for guests and our team!

THE TASK AT HAND:  

  • Conducting ongoing room inspections to identify repair needs  
  • Installing or repairing sheet rock and other wall coverings 
  • Painting and painting touch-ups as needed throughout the property 
  • Installing and repairing basic electrical fixtures, from replacing light switches to swapping lightbulbs 
  • Repairing fixtures and furniture 
  • Installing, replacing, and programing televisions 
  • Performing minor plumbing functions 
  • Replacing and repairing heating and cooling pumps as well as preventative maintenance on HVAC units 
  • Tracing and repairing all types of water lines  
  • Troubleshooting and repairing kitchen equipment 
  • Maintaining repair and preventive maintenance records while following service recovery guidelines 
  • Adhering to work to local, state and Federal codes while performing all building maintenance needs.  
  • Supporting the operations team and completing some House Person functions in the event of staffing shortages or busy periods.  
  • Practicing safe work habits by wearing protective safety equipment and complying with MSDS and OSHA standards  
  • Helping to ensure overall guest satisfaction 
  • Working a flexible schedule based on hotel occupancy or emergency repair needs 

 

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR: 

  • A positive, upbeat attitude and a passion for building maintenance 
  • A collaborative team member that’s happy to pitch in, support coworkers, and try things differently if the situation calls for a quick pivot.  
  • A good communicator 
  • Top-notch organization skills and the ability to prioritize projects 
  • The ability to safely work throughout a shift. Tasks may include walking, standing, bending, and lifting supplies up to 50lbs.  
  • Comfort in a fast-paced environment 
  • 5+ years of experience in general repair and building maintenance 
  • Professional skilled trade licensing in plumbing & electrical preferred, but not required 
  • A flexible work schedule as weekend and holiday shifts may be required from time to time 
  • Requires mobility and prolonged standing, walking, bending and lifting up to 50 lbs 
  • Extensive knowledge of AC systems & refrigeration

  • Ensure regular, ongoing communication occurs (e.g. daily rallies, divisional/departmental meetings, attendance at regular and ad hoc hotel meetings).
  • Recruit and select talented leaders and team members who will enhance the Hotels culture and demonstrate functional expertise; ensuring staffing levels are appropriate to meet business demands.
  • Provide guidance and direction to subordinates through coaching, counseling, mentoring, and reviewing performance.
  • Utilize interpersonal and communication skills to lead, influence and inspire others; advocate sound business decisions; demonstrate honesty and integrity; lead by example.
  • Build and maintain an organizational culture that maximizes employee engagement and attracts top talent.


About you...

  • Passionate about leading a hotel operations team with a minimum of 10 years of progressive related work experience in an upper upscale and/or luxury hotel environment.
  • Prior experience as a Director of Rooms or Director of Food & Beverage required
  • A post-secondary diploma or degree would be a plus.
  • An expert in hotel operations, a strong leader and a proven track record in guest and team member engagement and financial performance.
  • Excels at communication, both verbal and written.
  • Is flexible and willing to meet the demands of a 24-hour operation.

Position Overview

The Overnight Hotel Manager is the most senior leader on property during overnight hours, serving as the hotel’s primary decision maker and point of accountability. This role carries full operational oversight of the hotel while also ensuring the accurate completion of all nightly audit and financial reconciliation processes.


This leader safeguards the guest experience, addresses and resolves escalated concerns, supports overnight colleagues, and ensures seamless communication into the morning leadership team. The role requires sound judgment, strong operational awareness, and the confidence to act independently in a fast paced environment. Precision, composure, and a service driven mindset are essential, as this position sets the tone for the hotel during its most autonomous hours.


Key Responsibilities


Hotel Wide Operational Leadership

  • Serve as Manager on Duty overnight with full authority across all departments including Front Office, Housekeeping, Engineering, Security, and Valet
  • Oversee operational flow, staffing alignment, and service delivery to ensure standards are upheld property wide
  • Act as the primary escalation point for complex guest situations, operational disruptions, or colleague concerns
  • Make real time decisions that protect guest satisfaction, financial performance, and brand integrity


Guest Experience & Service Excellence

  • Lead all overnight guest interactions and service recovery efforts
  • Ensure high profile arrivals, special accommodations, and high touch service standards are executed seamlessly
  • Monitor guest feedback and operational trends, escalating patterns to senior leadership as needed
  • Represent the hotel with professionalism and composure in all interactions


Financial Oversight & Risk Management

  • Oversee completion of nightly audit and financial reconciliation processes
  • Ensure accuracy of daily revenue reporting, adjustments, and departmental postings
  • Review operational reports and identify irregularities or risk exposure
  • Maintain compliance with cash handling, key control, and internal audit standards


Safety, Security & Asset Protection

  • Serve as the senior authority during overnight emergencies
  • Direct emergency response efforts in coordination with Security and Engineering
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulatory requirements
  • Proactively monitor building activity to mitigate risk and protect guests, colleagues, and physical assets


Leadership & Team Oversight

  • Address performance or conduct concerns in alignment with company policy
  • Ensure clear and thorough communication to morning leadership through detailed pass on reporting


Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 to 6 years of progressive hotel operations experience
  • At least 2 years in a senior supervisory or managerial capacity
  • Strong understanding of full service or luxury hotel operations
  • Proficiency in property management systems and financial reporting processes
  • Demonstrated ability to lead independently and manage high pressure situations
