Role Description
We are seeking a motivated Environmental Scientist / Technician with 2-4 years of experience performing Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) in accordance with ASTM standards and Texas regulatory requirements. This position is ideal for someone who is detail oriented, enjoys fieldwork, and wants to grow within the environmental due diligence and remediation space.
Key Responsibilities
Phase I ESA Duties
- Conduct site inspections and property reconnaissance.
- Review historical sources (aerials, city directories, topographic maps, etc.).Β Β Β Β Β Β
- Review regulatory databases for environmental records.
- Interview site contacts, property owners, and relevant agencies.
- Identify Recognized Environmental Conditions (RECs) and prepare clear, defensible findings.
- Prepare complete Phase I ESA reports following ASTM E1527.
Phase II ESA Duties
- Assist in planning and executing soil, groundwater, and vapor sampling events.
- Oversee drilling operations, direct-push sampling, and monitoring well installation.
- Collect soil, groundwater, and soil vapor samples in accordance with industry standards.
- Perform field screening and document field notes, chain-of-custody, and sample logs.
- Coordinate with certified laboratories for sample analysis.
- Contribute to Phase II ESA reporting, including data interpretation and summary tables.
Preferred Skills:
- Β Experience with GPS/GIS data collection.
- Β TRRP (Texas Risk Reduction Program) familiarity.

Develop environmental investigation and remediation work scopes with environmental consultants, manage their performance, and interpret findings.
Support property transaction decisions with inputs regarding environmental liabilities and risks, development restrictions, and construction requirements and costs.
Interface with regulatory agencies, attorneys and property sellers, buyers, investors and lenders regarding NorthPoint's environmental investigations, remediation, reporting and compliance.
Advise construction teams and contractors on appropriate protocols for earthwork, managing impacted materials, site-worker safety, permit-compliance requirements and soil management plans.
Assist in developing budgetary estimates of environmental-related costs in overall redevelopment project proformas.

The position is a full-time, 10-week work experience during Summer 2026. College students are eligible for this position. Each day involves traveling to collect water samples at client sites (mostly schools and child care facilities). The role is based in Brownsville, Texas, and will include three weeks of work in Mission, TX during the last three weeks of the position. For candidates located outside of the area, relocation and a housing stipend will be provided. The position includes frequent travel and fieldwork.

Responsibility involves monitoring these projects to ensure compliance with Federal, State and local environmental regulations and standards. Supervision is exercised over professional and support staff, and administrative oversight over compliance efforts. Does related work as required.
Requirements:
A Masterβs degree in Environmental Science or closely related field, or a Juris Doctorate; and ten years professional experience in solid waste, legal or operational issues, two years of which must have involved the management and coordination of environmental projects
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possess and maintain a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the State of New York.
NOTES
1. The number of years of experience required in the minimum qualifications is based upon the presumption of full-time employment. Part-time experience will be prorated based on a 35 hour workweek.
2. Verified and documented volunteer (unpaid) experience will only be credited when specifically allowed by the job description or examination announcement

Education beyond the secondary level must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education.
