POSITION OVERVIEW:

As an Electrical Automation Engineer, you will play a critical role in delivering advanced industrial automation systems. You’ll work hands‑on with PLCs, HMIs, electrical schematics, and full control system integrations, supporting both in‑house testing at our cutting-edge manufacturing facility and field performance improvements for customers worldwide. WHAT WILL YOU DO:

• Program and troubleshoot PLC control logic primarily in Ladder Diagram (LAD) and Function Block Diagram (FBD) to support automated manufacturing systems. Familiarity with Structured Control Language (SCL) and Statement List (STL) is a plus. Assist and collaborate in the creation and maintenance of detailed electrical schematics for industrial control enclosures and systems.
• Troubleshoot automation control issues and enhance system performance at customer sites.
• Collaborate with electrical and mechanical design engineers to develop robust automation and control packages for industrial machinery and machine control.
• Support the creation of project documentation such as risk assessments and user’s manuals.
• Participate in commissioning activities for new installations and upgrades. (Estimated travel: 2–3 weeks per year, typically in one‑week increments.)

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

• Experience with electrical control system programming and maintenance, specifically with PLC and HMI brand platforms; Siemens and Allen-Bradley/Rockwell desired. Some legacy platforms include Delta, Mitsubishi, and Citect.
• Experience with AC and DC motors, including drives.
• Electrical and control system integration, commissioning, and maintenance experience.
• Proficiency in CAD and ECAD is preferred but not required.
• Field experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment a plus.
• Ability to travel internationally preferred.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to multitask while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.

EDUCATION

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Serve as the primary local contact/leader for customer, vendor and Union matters related to quality, customer service, delivery, or safety. Work with HR and Union leadership to support our Union and adjust labor capacity to meet customer demand.
• Work with corporate leadership to develop and deploy annual objectives (including the budget) and provide the team with needed support and resources. Develop an annual CAPEX budget for Operations and work with finance to manage to the budget.
• Work closely with engineering to ensure engineering designs that are easy to manufacture and reduce manufacturing labor and materials.
• Ensure employee compliance to company policies and procedures and maintain facility security.

Unit Description: McClure 6 is one of three University of Vermont Medical Center, General Medicine Units.  We care for patients with acute and chronic multi-system health needs.  Our specialties include elder care (including delirium prevention), respiratory disease, renal and dialysis patients (UVMMC is the only hospital in Vermont that accommodates in-patient dialysis), diabetes, wound care, alcohol withdrawal, substance use disorders, various GI disorders, coagulopathies, bariatric care, infectious disease, and many other acute health issues. Many of our patients come to us directly from the ICU or the emergency department, at times creating the atmosphere of a medical step-down unit. We also have patients admitted to us from ICUs in outlying community hospitals throughout Vermont and northern New York.
