The Chair will work to ensure that mental health services are developed and managed in accordance with MSSN’s mission, strategic direction and business position. The Chair of Psychiatry will direct activities of the mental health staff and ensure that mental health services are delivered in accordance with Mount Sinai South Nassau’s policies and procedures, New York State regulations and guidelines, funder guidelines, and established best practices in mental health.
Responsibilities :
Responsibilities include overseeing clinician recruitment, supervision of all clinical care, as well as leading quality improvement. Additional responsibilities include regulatory preparedness, and adherence to the standards of various certifying agencies as well as working with hospital and health system leadership to optimize and improve care for all patients in behavioral health.Duties:
• Function as the leader of the Department of Psychiatry at South Nassau • Develops, implements, and monitors clinical programs and services for the Department of Psychiatry, take steps to improve patient care outcomes/services • Coordinates and integrates inter and intra departmental activities to improve the coordination of care and services and takes steps to improve the continuity of care throughout the continuum • Responsible for the overall supervision of all clinical activity within the Department of psychiatry • Monitors the professional competence of the medical staff within the Department of Psychiatry providing care for patients and takes appropriate action when indicated • Communicates clearly with Departmental leadership, faculty and staff to outline roles, responsibilities, and expectations and conduct annual performance reviews • Ensuring Compliance with all regulatory (JC, CMS, OMH, DOH) requirements and standards at all times • Development and execution of Performance Improvement initiatives within the Department • Responsible for fiscal viability of the clinical services in the department including management of budget, expenses and revenue. • Ensure effective management and resolution of department specific patient complaints, emergency situations and critical events • Manage optimal training experience for trainees in the departmentAccreditation:

Mount Sinai South Nassau (MSSN) is an award-winning, acute care, not-for-profit teaching hospital located in Oceanside, New York. Mount Sinai South Nassau is looking for a board certified Family Medicine Physician to serve as a core faculty member. Our residency program, sponsored by the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is nearly 50 years old, with continued accreditation by the ACGME. The faculty physician will see patients about 20% time, precept/supervise students and residents 60% time, and have 20% time towards administrative, academic and educational efforts associated with the residency program. The practice setting is mostly outpatient, with some inpatient activity in the well newborn nursery and occasionally / rarely in the Pediatrics unit (with excellent Pediatrics back up).
Mount Sinai Doctors Five Towns is a multispecialty group practice located in the town of Hewlett on the South Shore of Long Island. They offer adult primary care, and a variety of specialties including endocrinology, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics and adolescent medicine and pulmonary medicine. Radiology services are on site. In addition, a team from Mount Sinai’s Recanati/Miller Transplantation Institute visits regularly to care for patients with liver, kidney, pancreas and intestinal conditions that may require transplant. The Department consists of over 40 full-time and voluntary board-certified physicians providing care to the diverse community. The Division of Gastroenterology at Mount Sinai has 10 physician faculty members at the hospital, including general GI, advanced interventionalists, mobility, IBD and hepatology experts. In addition, there are full time GI faculty at Mount Sinai Doctors Practices across Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and there are many voluntary GI physicians closely affiliated with the hospital and our endoscopic services. The hospital provides a full platform of specialized high-tech interventions (POEMS, EUS, etc.) in our very busy endoscopy unit, and the hospital performs complex hepatobiliary procedures, has an IBD center, a Mobility Center and there are two new major outpatient state-of-the-art ambulatory pavilions. The Division has 8 GI fellows (6 regular GI fellows plus 2 advanced interventional fellows) and participates closely with the Internal Medicine and General Surgery residency programs, and our colo-rectal surgeons. The ideal candidate for this position is a Board-Certified Gastroenterologist who has practiced for at least five years and has a demonstrated interest in and commitment to overseeing a large and expanding GI service. The Chief of Gastroenterology and Hepatobiliary will be eligible for a faculty appointment to the Icahn School of Medicine as appropriate.
