MaineHealth Neurosurgery and Spine is recruiting for a Physican Associate/Physician Assistant (PA) with the ability to see both adult and pediatric patient populations to practice at Maine Medical Center in Portland, ME. This is an opportunity to join our well-respected team in the Neurosurgery group supporting 12 Surgeons and working alongside 15 Advance Practice Providers (APPs) providing surgical, emergency, and in-patient care and services including ER consultations, hospital admissions, first assisting on Neurosurgical cases, and medical management of in-patients with daily rounds.
Primary inpatient responsibilities are at Maine Medical Center, the state's leading tertiary care hospital and Level 1 Trauma Center. Maine Medical Center has 637 licensed beds, a full complement of residencies and fellowships, and is an integral part of Tufts University Medical School.
These are 12 hours mostly day shifts averaging 32 hours per week (with the possibility of 40 hours). This includes one weekend shift per month and approximately 6-night shifts per year.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor?s Degree required; Master?s Degree preferred.
- Successful completion of accredited Physician Associate/Physician Assistant.
- Current license issued by the State of Maine or eligible for licensure. Certification of Physician Associate/Physician Assistants (NCCPA) required for PA's.
- Current BLS certification.

The Division of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at MaineHealth Maine Medical Center is seeking a motivated Physician Associate/Physician Assistant to join their accomplished team. The pediatric cardiac providers at MaineHealth provide the full spectrum of care for patients with congenital heart disease in Maine and beyond. This individual will be an integral member of a dynamic team that supports the only congenital cardiac surgical program in Northern New England with the pre-operative, intraoperative and post-operative management of patients with congenital heart disease.
The program offers a collegial, constructive environment, conducive to career development, skill acquisition and academic growth. Research opportunities are available for qualified candidates.
Primary responsibilities will include:
- Comprehensive pediatric cardiac surgery postoperative care management
- Surgical assistance in pediatric and adult congenital cardiac surgeries
- Participation in daily multidisciplinary surgical rounds in collaboration with the surgeon, ICU physicians and cardiologists
- Preoperative consultation and patient education
- Active involvement in nursing staff education
- Bedside procedures such as removal of chest drains, pacing wires, and intracardiac lines
- Active involvement in nursing staff education

Desired Qualifications & Experience:
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Accociate/Physician Assistant Program.
- Eligible for Maine licensure.
- Prior pediatric cardiac or general surgery experience is a must.
