Project Superintendent – Heavy Highway Construction
Massachusetts (multiple project sites)
$90,000 – $120,000 + bonus + benefits
A leading heavy civil contractor in the Northeast is looking to appoint a Project Superintendent to oversee highway and infrastructure construction projects across Massachusetts.
This is a field-based leadership role responsible for managing crews, subcontractors, and project delivery on complex roadway and paving projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.
The Role
As Project Superintendent, you will take ownership of the day-to-day site operations on heavy highway construction projects.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supervising field crews, subcontractors, and vendors on active construction sites
- Planning, scheduling, and coordinating project activities
- Ensuring projects are delivered safely and in compliance with regulatory standards (OSHA, traffic control requirements, etc.)
- Managing daily job progress, documentation, and reporting
- Monitoring productivity, costs, and project performance
- Coordinating materials, equipment, and workforce requirements
- Maintaining communication with project managers, clients, and internal teams
- Participating in project planning, estimating, and bid support
- Ensuring quality control standards and contractual obligations are met
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience supervising heavy civil or highway construction projects
- Strong experience managing field crews and subcontractors
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and project specifications
- Knowledge of DOT construction standards and roadway projects
- Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills
- Ability to work flexible schedules including night work when required
Preferred
- Experience working on state DOT highway projects
- Background in asphalt paving, roadway rehabilitation, or heavy civil construction
- Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or similar (preferred but not essential)

The ideal candidate will have experience processing payroll in a construction environment and be familiar with certified payroll and workforce reporting requirements. Experience with Sage 300 Construction Payroll, Union reporting and HH2 Remote Payroll is highly preferred.

** Work Hours***
o Must be able to work all scheduled times of the shift rotation alternating 4 days on and 4 days off. The night shift is 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM. The day shift is 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM.
§ For example: if the start of the work rotation is on a Monday, the individual would be scheduled to work Monday - Thursday. Then the individual would take the next 4 days off which would be Friday - Next Monday. Finally, the individual would be scheduled to start next rotation next Tuesday - next Friday. This pattern continues forward: 4 days on and 4 days off.
o If onboarded, training is required for the first 4 weeks and will be done on the day shift, Monday - Thursday (fixed days): 6:45 AM to 5:15 PM.
