The Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated Life Actuary to join the Life Company’s Asset Liability Management Team.  This role coordinates, prepares, and performs actuarial analyses required to develop new products, project future results, reprice existing products, and/or determine financial strength.

This role is remote eligible in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel. However, individuals residing within a 60-mile radius of a USAA office will be expected to work on-site four days per week.  Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Performs complex work assignments utilizing actuarial modeling software driven models for pricing, valuation, and/or risk management.

  • Reviews laws and regulations to ensure all processes are compliant; and provides recommendations for improvements and monitors industry communications regarding potential changes to existing laws and regulations.

  • Runs models, generates reports, and presents recommendations and detailed analysis of all model runs to Actuarial Leadership.

  • May make recommendations for model adjustments and improvements, when appropriate.

  • Shares knowledge with team members and serves as a resource to team on escalated issues and navigates obstacles to deliver work product.

  • Leads or participates as a key resource on moderately complex projects through concept, planning, execution, and implementation phases with minimal guidance, involving cross functional actuarial areas.

As a dedicated Complex Auto Adjuster, you will adjust highly complex auto insurance claims presented by or against our members to include the end-to-end claims process and settling claims in compliance with state laws and regulations. What you'll do:

  • Investigates to determine coverage, liability, and physical damage including total loss settlements for highly complex auto claims.
  • Negotiates liability for comparative negligence (claimant or adverse carrier).
  • Identifies coverage concerns, reviews prior loss history, determines, and creates Special Investigation Unit (SIU) referrals, when appropriate.
  • Interacts with multiple parties to gather information (police reports, recorded statements, witness statements) determine liability.
  • Analyzes information obtained to establish compliance for regulatory requirements and settlement value.
  • Evaluates and negotiates settlement of automobile first and third-party physical damage claims within established settlement authority limits and negotiates any excessive storage charges.
  • Resolves claims through proactive problem solving and decision making, within authority guidelines and under moderate supervision, overcoming obstacles, and effectively prioritizing the workload.
  • Clearly documents thought process including damage evaluation, investigation, negotiation, and settlement decisions.
  • Collaborates and sets expectations with external and internal business partners to facilitate claims resolution.
  • Supports members, business partners, and claimants, through use of varying communication channels to include utilization of digital tools to drive timely and effective resolutions through exceptional service.
  • Applies proficient knowledge of P&C insurance industry products, services, to include P&C insurance policy contracts, coverages and internal claims handling process and procedures.
  • May serve as an informal resource for team members.
  • Applies proficient knowledge of Auto Physical Damage to adjust claims.
  • Supports workload surges and catastrophe (CAT) response operations as needed, including mandatory on-call dates and potential evening, weekend, and/or holiday work outside normal work hours.
  • May be assigned CAT deployment travel with minimal notice during designated CATs.
  • Works various types of claims, including ones of higher complexity, and may be assigned additional work outside normal duties as needed.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

Qualifications:Job-Specific:

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
  • Current PA or NP with valid certification
  • Current CO license
  • DEA registration
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiopulmonary and Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Registered Co Fluoro Operation preferred, but not required upon hire; must obtain within 1 year of hire
  • 2 years of experience in Radiology preferred, but not required

Duties: Perform minor radiology procedures including, but not limited to

  • Joint aspiration and injection
  • Abscess/fluid aspiration and drainage
  • Lumbar puncture
  • Intravenous access and removal, including central lines, midlines, PICCs
  • Provide pre-procedure consultation/E&M obtain pre-procedure H&P
  • Provide post-procedure evaluation
  • Prescribe medications, as appropriate per scope of practice
  • Provide patient and family education
  • Document assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow up care in the patient record
  • Assist radiologists and hospital staff with patient throughput

As a Physician Assistant, you are subject to the medical protocols established by Association and the Chief Medical Officer of Concentra and in cooperation with other physicians assigned to a clinic or ?Center?, if any, Physician Assistant shall provide primary medical direction and coordination of professional medical care within the occupational health program.

Responsibilities:

  • Examines patient, compiles patient medical data and results of examination.
  • Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests.
  • Compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.
  • Interprets diagnostic test results for deviations from normal.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and managing infection.
  • Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens and health maintenance.
  • Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provision of continuity of care.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors? degree in related health field from an accredited college or university
  • Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program)
  • Passed the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE)
  • Current licensed physician assistant in the state where employed and in accordance with state laws of practice
  • Must maintain work state physician assistant licensure throughout the course of employment

This position is eligible to earn a base compensation rate in the state range of $130000 to $145000 annually depending on job-related factors as permitted by applicable law, such as level of experience, geographic location where the work is performed, and/or seniority.
