This role primarily involves managing post-operative cardiothoracic surgery patients, with some pre-operative duties and weekend coverage. Shifts are typically 7am-4pm, focusing on patient rounding, medication review, and minor procedures like chest tube and pacing wire removal under direct supervision.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Work on the cardiothoracic surgery step-down unit.
- Manage primarily post-operative patients, with occasional pre-operative patient management.
- Provide weekend coverage for all non-ICU cardiothoracic surgery patients, supported by a second APP and Cardiothoracic Physicians.
- Round on patients during weekends, reviewing medications, labs, imaging, and surgeon notes, and entering orders.
- Document brief progress notes when a plan of care or medication adjustment is necessary.
