The Opportunity

We are seeking an Associate Attorney with 1–5 years of litigation experience to join our Roanoke office. This is a great opportunity to handle diverse defense litigation, gain trial experience, and work with a team of seasoned attorneys.


Responsibilities

  • Manage 30–40 active litigation files, including discovery, depositions, motions, and client reporting.
  • Handle personal injury, premises liability, products liability, general liability, civil rights, and contract claims.
  • Handle matters in both State and Federal Court.
  • Work in a team structure with multiple attorneys and support staff.
  • Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and claims professionals.
  • Draft pleadings, discovery, and legal memoranda.
  • Contribute to trial prep and strategy.


Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed and in good standing in Virginia.
  • 1–5 years of litigation experience (open to more senior).
  • Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a busy docket independently.
  • Insurance defense experience is a plus.

Assistant General Counsel

Woods Rogers is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to join our growing firm. The Assistant General Counsel supports the General Counsel in overseeing the legal affairs of the firm. A primary role of this position will be to support the conflicts and new client intake team. This role also involves conducting research and providing strategic advice on a broad range of matters affecting the firm, including risk management, professional ethics and compliance, employment matters, internal investigations, client engagement, and contractual agreements. This position may be based at any of our five office locations.

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience working at a law firm or general counsel's office.
  • Proven expertise in conflicts and new client intake processes.
  • Strong knowledge of legal ethics, risk management principles, law firm operations, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent research and legal writing skills, including experience drafting complex legal documents.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent professional judgment and discretion, with outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective professional relationships with colleagues and clients.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Admission to the state bar of Virginia.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal support and guidance to the firm's conflicts and new client intake team.
  • Collaborate with firm leadership and practice group leaders to uphold the highest standards of legal and ethical conduct.
  • Assist the General Counsel in managing internal legal matters and advising on risk management strategies.
  • Provide counsel on issues involving professional responsibility, conflicts of interest, and confidentiality.
  • Draft and review firm-related contracts and agreements.
  • Assist in developing and implementing firm policies and training programs related to legal risk, compliance, and ethics.
  • Conduct or support internal investigations as needed.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
