PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
CLINIC OPERATIONS:
- Manages the operations of the clinic, including costs, processes, staffing, and quality standards.

We are actively involved in the education of medical students, residents from multiple CC-VTC and outside training programs, allied health science students, and Virginia Tech undergraduate and graduate students. We currently provide clinical training for senior residents from the otolaryngology residency at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and our own general and plastic surgery residents with the goal of establishing our own residency program in the near future. The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM) is a unique partnership between a public research university (Virginia Tech) and a private health care organization (Carilion Clinic) and is a fully LCME accredited, four-year allopathic medical school. The school is among the first of the new generation of medical schools in the United States. While VTCSOM opened as a private school in 2010, the school became part of Virginia Tech as its ninth college on July 1, 2018. Carilion Clinic Department of Anesthesia and Virginia Tech Carilion (VTC) School of Medicine are accepting applications for a highly skilled Fellowship Trained Obstetric Care Anesthesiologist.
This is an exciting time to join our team as we develop a new Anesthesia Residency Program targeted to begin in Summer 2026.
Clinical responsibilities include patient care in the Anesthesia Department at Carilion Medical Center (CMC), an 835-bed tertiary academic health center. CMC is one of the largest and busiest Level 1 adult and pediatric trauma centers in the region with 49 anesthetizing locations and NORA rooms. CMC is the only regional perinatal health care center in Southwest Virginia and performs over 2000 vaginal and 1000 cesarean deliveries annually. The Birthplace has 12 labor rooms and 2 dedicated obstetric operating rooms located in the unit. Inpatient obstetric coverage is provided by an experienced team of Academic Specialists in General Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Maternal Fetal Medicine physicians.
The position includes an academic appointment at Virginia Tech in the tenure track at the rank of Clinical Assistant, Associate, or Professor based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in obstetric anesthesia, a passion for teaching and research, and a commitment to providing exceptional patient care in a high-risk obstetric setting. Research interest with Fralin Biomedical Research Institute-VT is supported.

The section operates clinics in three satellite locations in the region, with plans to open two additional sites in the future.
