Chest pain, CHF, AMS/Weakness, Stoke/TIA, Post-op/Post procedure, GI infections, COPD, Pneumonia, UTI, Pain Control, Falls IV Start, Foley Insertion & Maintenance, Central Lines (blood draws, dressing changes), Simple and Complex wound dressing changes, Diabetes and CHF Management, Blood Transfusions, Designated Stroke Unit

Responsibilities

Implements plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Modifies plan of care based upon continuous evaluation. Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. Communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. - Number of beds on unit: 24
- Patient population (age, diagnosis, specifics about unit): The Advanced Care Unit is a 24-bed unit specializing in the care of acutely unstable patients that do not meet criteria for Intensive Care status but still require frequent, advanced assessments and interventions. Specific patient populations or conditions that require Advanced Care status include complex multi-trauma, uncompensated sepsis, continuous non-invasive ventilation, stroke, complicated withdrawal from alcohol or other recreational drugs, and DKA. The unit also includes an Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) where patients with seizure-like events can be safely taken off medication to purposefully induce seizure-like events and provide vital information to the Epilepsy Team about how to treat them.

- Department culture and resources: The Advanced Care Unit is a fast-pace, team-oriented unit. We work closely with our physician partners and ancillary team members to achieve the best outcomes for our patients. We have a robust Partnership Committee that meets monthly. Overview
Comprehensive Medical Physicist in Radiation Oncology, Interventional Radiology and Hospital Radiation Safety is responsible for performing all medical physics tasks necessary for the safe and accurate delivery of therapeutic ionizing radiation in collaboration with the radiation oncologists, interventional radiology, and staff of Carle Foundation Hospital. Comprehensive Medical Physicist in Radiation Oncology, Interventional Radiology and Hospital Radiation Safety will be responsible for maintaining State and Federal regulatory requirements specific to the practice of radiation therapy and radiation safety at Carle Foundation Hospital. Comprehensive Medical Physicist in Radiation Oncology, Interventional Radiology and Hospital Radiation Safety provides physics support for the following four (4) hospital units at Carle Health in Urbana: (1) Carle Cancer Institute and is responsible for quality control of all three linear accelerators in the radiation oncology department; (2) Interventional Radiology for intravascular administration of Y-90 radioactive therapy for patients with liver metastases; (3) Hospital Safety Department working with radiation safety officer on implementing all radiation safety measure for the entire hospital. Those measures are appropriate utilization of radiation safety precautions by hospital staff, proper dose monitoring in radiation exposure areas of the hospital, and proper licensing of all providers who are authorized users (AU) of radiation sources in the State of Illinois. (4) Comprehensive Medical Physicist will also provide radiation safety service for proper therapy of patients with brain tumors with radioactive seeds (Gamma Tile Cs-131) treated in Neurosurgery Department at Carle. Comprehensive Medical Physicist in Radiation Oncology, Interventional Radiology and Hospital Radiation Safety is responsible for performing all medical physics tasks necessary for the safe and accurate delivery of therapeutic ionizing radiation in collaboration with the radiation oncologists, interventional radiology, and staff of Carle Foundation Hospital. Comprehensive Medical Physicist in Radiation Oncology, Interventional Radiology and Hospital Radiation Safety will be responsible for maintaining State and Federal regulatory requirements specific to the practice of radiation therapy and radiation safety at Carle Foundation Hospital. Comprehensive Medical Physicist in Radiation Oncology, Interventional Radiology and Hospital Radiation Safety provides physics support for the following four (4) hospital units at Carle Health in Urbana: (1) Carle Cancer Institute and is responsible for quality control of all three linear accelerators in the radiation oncology department; (2) Interventional Radiology for intravascular administration of Y-90 radioactive therapy for patients with liver metastases; (3) Hospital Safety Department working with radiation safety officer on implementing all radiation safety measure for the entire hospital. Those measures are appropriate utilization of radiation safety precautions by hospital staff, proper dose monitoring in radiation exposure areas of the hospital, and proper licensing of all providers who are authorized users (AU) of radiation sources in the State of Illinois. (4) Comprehensive Medical Physicist will also provide radiation safety service for proper therapy of patients with brain tumors with radioactive seeds (Gamma Tile Cs-131) treated in Neurosurgery Department at Carle. He/she will create and monitor clinical quality indicators and collaborates with physicians to ensure appropriate treatment guidelines are utilized and monitored.

Compensation and Benefits
The compensation range for this position is $35.22per hour - $60.58per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model. Position Highlights: NT4 Ortho-Urology Surgical Unit
- Number of beds on unit: 41
- Patient population (age, diagnosis, specifics about unit): NT4 is 41- bed unit specializing in the care of acute ortho and urology surgical patients. We are DNV certified for our hip and knee replacement surgeries. Surgical patients on this unit includes limb trauma patients, as well low acuity medical patients. With Carle being a level trauma center most regional trauma patients will be admitted to this unit.
- Nurse to Patient ratio: 1:4-6
- Department culture and resources: North Tower 4 is a fast paced throughput unit that highly collaborates with physical and occupational therapists. The average length of stay for most patients is a max of three days, so staff can experience the entire recovery process of the patient. We focus on being a team to provide the best and safest care to our community. Our patients appreciate the kind and positive reassurance they receive from our staff. Additionally resources for the unit include: a full-time educator, part-time educator, 2 nurse supervisors, a manager, and charge nurses.
- Frequent nursing skills/equipment used: Wound Vacs, JP drains, Buck’s tractions, external fixators, lift equipment, orthotic devices (boots, slings, walker, etc), chest tubes, Foley/IV/Mediport insertions, Central line care and lab draws, Nursing prioritization, IV pumps, PCA pumps, Feeding pumps, SCDs, Telemetry monitoring, Patient connection

Qualifications
License/Certifications:

Performs all responsibilities and duties required by unit as specific to the scope of service. Implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team. Implements plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Modifies plan of care based upon continuous evaluation.
