At Saint Mary’s Hospital, the Registered Nurse (RN) in the Same Day Surgery unit is responsible for delivering high‑quality, patient‑centered care to support pre‑operative preparation and post‑operative recovery for surgical patients. This includes preparing patients for surgery, providing education, following universal protocol, and ensuring safe discharge from Phase II recovery.

The Inpatient Surgery Department at Saint Mary’s Hospital is a 23-bed unit specializing in the pre- and post-operative care of patients undergoing a wide range of surgical procedures. These include, but are not limited to, bariatric, orthopedic, ortho-trauma, neuro-spine, mastectomy, urological, gynecological, and gastrointestinal surgeries.
Your Role
As a valued member of our multidisciplinary team, you will:
Deliver direct, hands-on care to patients with complex surgical needs.
Develop and implement individualized care plans focused on promoting recovery and restoring patients to their pre-surgical level of wellness.
Provide exceptional care and support for patients requiring overnight or extended post-operative stays.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Associate’s degree in nursing from an accredited program required; BSN preferred.
Licensure: Current and valid Connecticut RN license.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year in an acute inpatient setting.
Certifications: BLS or CPR certification from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
Work Schedule:
Full-time, 36 hours, Nights
12-hour shifts- 7 p to 7:30 a

At Saint Mary’s Hospital, our Medical Surgical/Ortho-Neuro-Ortho Unit is a 27-bed unit specializing in the care of adult patients with stroke, orthopedic, and neuro-spine conditions. In addition to these specialties, nurses on this unit care for patients with a wide range of medical and surgical needs, delivering high-quality, compassionate care in a collaborative and supportive environment.
This unit also utilizes a Virtual Nurse, the Together Team Model, as part of our care team. The Virtual RN brings a minimum of 7 years of experience and provides essential support to bedside staff, including assistance with admissions, discharges, patient education, purposeful rounding, and enhancing team communication.
What You Will Do:
Deliver compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to adult patients with diverse medical and surgical needs.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.

At St. Mary’s Hospital, the Float team RNs could work in various Nursing Departments. These Nursing Departments include all Medical-Surgical units, which are Sacred Heart 5 (SH5), O’Brien 4 (OB4), and O’Brien 7 (OB7). Float RNs may also work in Critical Care and the Emergency Department with additional training.
What will you do
In this Registered Nurse RN role, you will monitor, record, and respond to patients’ clinical status. Assisting with various levels of care and treatment, while supporting and encouraging rehabilitation. As a float RN, you are assigned to your designated unit by the Nursing Supervisor before the shift. Float RNs are subject to float between one or more units during the 12-hour shift.
Minimum Qualifications
