The multidisciplinary team in the Ambulatory Procedures Unit (APU) or Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) specializes in and provides quality care for a broad range of surgical procedures.
Procedure acuity is also broad and can include patients going home the same day to patients needing to stay inpatient for a recovery period.
The patient population ranges from pediatric to geriatric.
In APU/ASC strong relationships with the patients and their families are built through compassion, empathy and extensive teaching.
The nursing approach is a team approach, and all entities work together to care for the patient in this area.
This is a fast paced, dynamic unit.

Initiates patient teaching and clinical pathways regarding surgery and/or procedures.
Works collaboratively with Care Management.
Implements, evaluates and documents patient care.
Ensures that appropriate lab test results are obtained prior to surgery; reports abnormal to anesthesiologist and/or surgeon.
Performs various tests, obtains results and forwards to appropriate department.
Functions as a professional role model and resource person providing guidance to co-workers.
