- Oklahoma City Veterans Health Care System This location consists of a 192-operating bed VHA facility located in Central Oklahoma serving 48 Oklahoma Counties and two counties in North Central Texas with a veteran population of over 225,000.
The Oklahoma City VAMC also includes Community Based Outpatient Clinics in Lawton, Ardmore, Stillwater, Altus, Ada, Enid, Blackwell, Oklahoma and Wichita Falls, Texas.
The Oklahoma City VAMC is also a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research.
Comprehensive health care is provided through primary care, tertiary care, and long-term care in areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics, and extended care.
Facility Address: 921 NE 13 th St, Oklahoma City, OK 73104 General Surgeon: RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to) Estimated to be approximately 95% of the time involved in direct patient care.
Anticipate an average of 20-30 patients each month in surgery, and 40-50 clinical patients each month.
Shall be present in the operating suite for all General Surgery procedures.
Physician's rounds shall be conducted on postoperative patients in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and on the wards.
All cases will be discussed in morbidity and mortality conferences, and the surgeon will provide appropriate information for the inclusion in departmental reports.
Shall provide consultative services at the patient's bedside if the patient is not ambulatory and, in the clinic setting if the patient is able to report to the outpatient clinic.
Procedures shall be scheduled for completion within 30 days of the date of the consultation.
Pre-Operative Note: In all cases of surgery, and if circumstances permit in cases of emergency surgery, the responsible staff shall enter a pre-operative progress note which provides documentation of the findings, diagnosis, plan of treatment, discussion of surgery with the patient, and choice of specific procedure before it is performed.
The pre-operative note may be completed up to 30 days prior and shall indicate the details of the case, what has been discussed, and that the planned surgical procedure has been approved.
Operative report: Shall be documented immediately after the operation or procedure.
It shall describe the procedure, operative findings, and condition of the patient.
Operative procedures: Shall provide all General Surgical Services.
Surgical services include pre-operative and post-operative evaluation and follow-up in addition to the operative session.
Shall follow all timeliness requirements for documentation to include operative note, operative report, admission and/or pre-procedure note.
GEN SURG: QUALIFICATIONS License: Shall have a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.
Board certification: Shall be board certified by the American Board of General Surgery and be currently certified in the BLS and ACLS certifications.

Medical Assistant
- Demonstrates ability to recognize urgent/emergent needs of patients and initiate appropriate emergency procedures as needed.
- Demonstrates current level of knowledge of various payor regulations by functioning within those guidelines.
- Follows clinic procedure/protocol for the organization and management of the electronic medical record (i.e. test results, retrieval, filing, creation, repair, charging of electronic medical record).

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Successful completion of a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification must be obtained within first year of employment and maintained thereafter.
- Clinic/physician office experience preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire.
