Performance: Position Specific Essential Functions
  • Maintains flight readiness by checking and stocking the aircraft at the beginning of each shift and after each use.
  • Conducts an on-going assessment of patient's clinical status and utilizes the assessment information to plan and implement appropriate care and treatment to patients in accordance with department guidelines, policies, procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge skills, and abilities necessary to perform nursing care on patients of all age ranges.
  • Maintains required annual competencies for position to include: 3 quarterly live or mannequin intubations, annual SIM lab, clinical rotations, and invasive procedures lab as required by the medical director and/or program director.
  • Assumes responsibility for preventing incidents that could lead to injury, promptly reports unsafe conditions that require actions from others, promptly reports incidents and completes paperwork, and consistently utilizes equipment properly.
  • Administers medication in accordance with hospital policies, demonstrates knowledge of medications administered to include normal dosages, side effects, and expected outcomes. Documents according to policy and utilize tools/resources to supplement knowledge.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • The ability to perform the duties and responsibility of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations for disabilities.
  • The ability to consistently lift, push or pull loads of up to four hundred (400) pounds (patient plus equipment) in and out of aircraft with assistance of 2 - 3 people.
  • Sufficient strength, mobility, and stamina to make frequent location and position changes, assist with patient care, and perform other physical activities of average difficulty. Able to remain seated in a limited space for greater than an hour while providing in-flight care.
  • Candidates whose disabilities make them unable to meet the requirements will still be considered fully qualified if they can perform the essential functions of the job with reasonable accommodation.
  • May be exposed to infectious or contagious disease.
  • May have to handle emergency situations.
  • May be subject to irregular hours.
  • May be required to wear protective equipment such as eye protection, face protection, masks, sterile/nonsterile gloves, isolation gowns, safety related clothes and articles: Helicopter required flight suit, helmet with visor and night vision goggles.
  • Ability to grasp and handle object with fine motor skills and adequate hand-eye coordination.

Qualifications

Education
  • Required
    • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
    • Completion of an accredited program of nursing
    • Associate's degree in nursing
  • Preferred
    • Bachelor's degree in nursing
    • Master's degree in nursing
    • Experience:
    • Required
      • Three (3) or more years of experience in critical or emergency care
      • Three (3) or more years of experience in an intensive care unit (ICU) or emergency room (ER)
    • Preferred
      • Three (3) or more years of air medicine experience
    • Registered Nurse (RN), with Authorization to Practice in the State of Texas
    • Required within thirty (30) days of start date
      • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
    • Required within six (6) months of start date
      • Successful completion of MedTrans Corporation New Hire Academy
    • Required within one (1) year of start date:
      • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification
      • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
      • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
    • Required within two (2) years of start date:
      • Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN)
      • Completion of Advanced Trauma Transport Course
      • Emergency Medical Technician
