Responsibilities of the Legal Administrative Assistant:

• Provide day-to-day administrative support to attorneys and office staff.
• Manage calendars, schedule meetings, and coordinate appointments.
• Prepare, format, and proofread legal documents and correspondence.
• Maintain organized digital and physical filing systems.
• Serve as a professional point of contact for clients and external partners.
• Track deadlines and assist with case-related administrative tasks.
• Support general office operations, including data entry and document management.

Qualifications of the Legal Administrative Assistant:

• Experience: 1–3+ years of administrative experience (legal experience is a plus but not required).
• Environment: Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, professional services setting.
• Skill Set: Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Character: High level of professionalism, discretion, and reliability.
• Logistics: Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Paralegal with experience in medical malpractice and/or personal injury litigation to join a respected and well-established law firm in Rhode Island.

This role plays a critical part in supporting attorneys through all stages of complex litigation, from case intake and discovery through trial preparation. The position combines strong legal knowledge, organization, and client communication to help ensure cases move forward efficiently while maintaining a high level of service for clients.

Key Responsibilities of the Paralegal:

• Provide comprehensive litigation support for medical malpractice and personal injury cases.
• Draft, prepare, and file legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and discovery.

• Maintain case files, litigation calendars, and track important court deadlines.
• Assist attorneys with discovery management, including interrogatories and document production.
• Prepare case materials, exhibits, and documentation for hearings, depositions, and trial.
• Communicate professionally with clients, medical providers, experts, and court personnel.
• Organize and maintain detailed case documentation to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
• Support attorneys with legal research and general case preparation.

Qualifications of the Paralegal:

• Paralegal certificate or degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or related field preferred.
• 3+ years of litigation experience, ideally within medical malpractice or personal injury.
• Experience in requesting and reviewing medical records and medical billing documentation.
• Familiarity with state and federal court filing procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple active cases simultaneously.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with legal case management systems and Microsoft Office.

Job Description

• Handle litigation matters from pleadings through discovery, motion practice, and resolution
• Draft motions, briefs, legal memoranda, pleadings, and discovery responses
• Take and defend depositions
• Appear in court and work directly with clients
• Conduct legal research, analyze case facts, and develop litigation strategy
• Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and the court
• Attend hearings, depositions, mediations, and trials as needed
• Collaborate with experienced attorneys and strong support staff on active matters
• Defend a variety of civil litigation matters including general liability, personal injury, construction defect, commercial trucking, and employment-related claims

Qualifications

• J.D. required
• Active Rhode Island bar admission required
• 3+ years of insurance defense and/or litigation experience
• Strong legal writing, research, and analytical skills
• Experience drafting motions and other legal memoranda
• Experience with discovery, depositions, and court appearances
• Able to manage cases independently while working well as part of a team
• Active Massachusetts, New Hampshire, or Connecticut bar admission is a plus
• Ability to transfer UBE score is a plus
• Employment law, construction defect, and/or commercial trucking experience is a plus
