Responsibilities

The Ambulatory Registered Nurse (RN) is a vital member of the surgical team in the outpatient clinical setting, working alongside surgeons, residents, Nurse Practitioners/Physician Assistants (NPs/PAs), and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care. The RN plays a key role in the preoperative and postoperative management of adult surgical patients within the Breast and Melanoma practice. 

The RN’s responsibilities include but are not limited to preoperative and postoperative patient evaluation and education along with reinforcement of the disease process and care management recommendations, coordination of multidisciplinary care including collaboration with other departments such as Breast Clinic, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Plastic Surgery and facilitation of non-face-to-face patient triage via phone and portal messaging. The RN also interacts extensively with the in basket and electronic health record system to manage orders, create surgical listings, and coordinate with other specialties involved in patient care as directed by the physician.

 The RN role is key to the overall facilitation of patient management as directed by the surgeon and to ensure seamless patient care coordination. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, critical thinking abilities, and a commitment to patient education are essential. The RN must be well-organized, able to multitask effectively, and thrive in an autonomous yet collaborative team environment.

The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. Qualifications

Graduate of a nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). If graduated from a nursing program that was not accredited by ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA, at least one year of RN experience in an applicable care setting or one year of LPN experience at Mayo Clinic is required.

All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date of April 1, 2020 and after must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within five years from the last day of the month of the RN start date.

Additional Qualifications:

Required:  Must have a least ONE YEAR current RN experience which could include Ambulatory/Outpatient, Operating Room or bedside nursing.  Experience in caring for the surgical patient is preferred.  Must be able to problem solve, work independently and demonstrate strong navigation skills in the electronic environment.   Applicant must be self-motivated and work well with minimal direction. Responsibilities

RNs work closely in support Neurology providers within the Headache Clinic.  The RN role includes patient education, follow-up phone calls, managing inbox messages, and providing direct care and support of patients and their families during clinic visits.

The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. Qualifications

The Cardiac Cath Lab Registered Nurse performs as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team providing care to patients during their journey through the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.  Provides age specific care to patients ranging from infants to geriatric patients.  Registered Nurses interact with patients in the outpatient, inpatient hospital and emergency settings.  Per protocols, independently screen patients for various Cardiovascular, Cerebral vascular and Peripheral vascular diagnostic or interventional procedures.  Provide pre, intra and post procedure assessment and education for patients undergoing these procedures.  Collaborate with referring and procedural physicians to ensure all protocol and educational needs of the patient are met prior to procedures.  Provides moderate sedation and administers medications per protocols, ACLS guidelines and physician orders during procedures.  Monitors for and respond to changes in, level of consciousness, ECG, respiratory, and hemodynamics.  Recover patients post procedure in the Cardiac Cath Lab post procedure room until discharge criteria are met.  Admits post interventional patients to appropriate receiving nursing unit.  Coordinates post procedure assessments, care and discharge of the patient from the interventional nursing units.  Offers self as a resource to nursing units and personnel, providing direction and guidance in solving patient and Cardiac Cath Lab issues.  Cardiac Cath Lab Registered Nurses function as a patient advocate and act as a liaison between referring physician, patient, family, and procedural physician to ensure a smooth transition throughout their entire Cardiac Cath Lab journe

Community Internal Medicine, Geriatrics and Palliative (4th, 5th, and 6th floor of the Baldwin Building)

 

Primary Care patient services include health care for existing medical needs, preventative care, acute care, and management of chronic health conditions. Care is provided through in-person visits, phone, video and web-based care. LPNs in all primary care practices are valued members of the interprofessional care team, collaborating with physicians, advanced practitioners, non-licensed allied health professionals, registered nurses, and student learners. Primary Care locations offer a fast-paced, team-oriented environment that allows LPNs to work closely with an interdisciplinary team while building meaningful, long-term relationships with patients  

 

Adults 18+ with focus on geriatric and palliative needs, including chronic condition management and nurse-led procedures. Community Internal Medicine, Palliative and Geriatrics (GIM-GP) cares for patients age 18 and older. LPNs in Community Internal Medicine play a vital role in delivering patient-centered care for adult/geriatric patients.  The LPN is responsible for after-visit care for provider appointments and managing nurse visits through the LPN calendar including; administering immunizations and medications, performing ear lavage, post-void residuals, intermittent and indwelling catheter care, wound care and removing sutures or staples, reinforcing patient education. The Ambulatory Float Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works in variety of dynamic specialty clinics and primary care including, but not limited to, the following locations:  Baldwin, Gonda, Mayo Clinic, NE Clinic, NW Clinic, SE Clinic, and Kasson.  Ambulatory floats provide direct patient care to support the unique needs of the clinical practice. The licensed practical nurse (LPN) provides nursing care to assigned patients under the direct supervision of the registered nurse (RN) or other assigned supervisor and accepts delegation from the RN/assigned supervisor in meeting the needs of the patient/family. The LPN collects data through observation and communicates information to assist the RN and/or provider in patient assessment and care planning. The LPN participates as a member of the health care team and accepts delegation from the RN/assigned supervisor and provider in meeting needs of the patient/family. The LPN delivers care in accordance with the patient care plan, policies and procedures of the organization and principles of relationship-based care. The LPN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and instructing; and may participate on committees or projects, including quality improvement projects.

Qualifications

Graduate of a school of practical nursing or passed LPN Boards after a defined period in a professional nursing program (e.g., some states allow RN students to take the LPN board exam after completing one to two years in the RN program). If graduation did not occur within the last two years, one year of LPN experience working in an applicable setting is required.
 

Additional Qualifications: 

Cross Training to Surgical Dermatology is expected with frequent and prolonged standing required during surgical procedures. One year LPN experience within the last five years preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Location: Gonda 18, Pulmonary Outpatient Procedure Center

The Pulmonary Medicine adult ambulatory practice meets the adult patient’s needs with acute and chronic pulmonary disease. The unit is staffed with consultants, fellows, NP/PA, registered nurses, procedure assistants, respiratory therapists and Internal Medicine residents . Services include but not limited to medical management, education, same-day interventional procedures and managing in basket messages.

The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects. Qualifications
