Job Summary
Urgent care Advanced Practitioners (Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner) provide a wide variety of clinical services including treatment of acute episodic conditions such as sore throats, colds, flu-like symptoms, cuts, sprains and minor infections. Functioning in lieu of or alongside of a physician, it is essential for an urgent care Advanced Practitioner to have excellent assessment skills in order to recognize more serious conditions and direct the patient to the emergency room for advanced care when necessary.
Job Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's Degreerequired for Physician Assistants
- Master's Degree required for Nurse Practitioners
Work Experience
- One (1) year of full-time experience in Emergency Medicine or One (1) year of Urgent Care setting experience required. Will consider 2 years of Family Medicine experience.
Required Licenses/Certifications
- National Certification
- Active state medical licensure
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Work experience in an Urgent Care or Emergency Room setting preferred
- Applicable office procedures including but not limited to suturing, splinting, casting etc.
- Preliminary reads on EKGs and X-rays required.
- Experience treating patients ages 6 months and up in an acute care setting required.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Preferred
- Knowledge and experience with Electronic Medical Records
- Ability to be attentive with strong listening skills
- Strong communication and customer service skills
Essential Functions

- Examining and treating patients
- Taking patients? medical histories
- Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests and X-rays
- Making diagnoses and prescribing medications
- Treating minor injuries that may require sutures, splints, or casting
- Recording progress notes for follow-up patients
- Educating and counseling patients
- Ordering and/or carrying out therapy with patients
- Giving vaccinations, and referring patients to additional care
- Each provider will work an anticipated eight (8) or twelve (12) hours per shift which will be assigned by an authorized representative of GoHealth Urgent Care
- All other duties as assigned

Primary Care Nurse Practitioner

Position Overview:
Gales Ferry Medical Group, a trusted independent medical practice serving southeastern Connecticut since 1970, is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (Family Nurse Practitioner or Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner) to join our team. The role involves providing comprehensive primary care services, including sick and well visits and some gynecologic care, to a diverse patient population.
Key Responsibilities:
- Setting: Outpatient only
- Patient Volume: 18-22 patients per day
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including routine sick and well visits.
- Provide gynecologic care as part of primary care services.
- Diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions with evidence-based treatment plans.
- Promote preventive care and health maintenance strategies tailored to patient needs.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality, coordinated care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with healthcare standards.
Qualifications:
- Certification: Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP)
- Active Nurse Practitioner license in Connecticut (or eligibility to obtain one).
- Minimum of 1-2 years of primary care or outpatient experience required.
- Strong communication skills and a commitment to patient-centered care.
