The incumbent will serve as an attending physician in the Division of OB/GYN Generalists, with focus on the care and treatment of obstetric patients. This includes inpatient attending responsibilities for the division on inpatient units at Jackson Holtz Women’s & Children’s Hospital.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

Members of the Ob/Gyn Generalists Division provide comprehensive obstetric & gynecologic care to women working alongside allied health professionals, specialists and subspecialists in both the University of Miami/ UHealth and Jackson Health Systems.

Primary duties will include: 

  • Active participation in the inpatient and outpatient clinical practice of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Miami Kendall Medical Center, Desai Sethi Institute, Doral Commons, University of Miami Hospital and Jackson Memorial Hospital. 

  • Participation in the advancement and education of “OB/GYN” medical students, residents, and fellows.?? 

  • Develops and carries out a comprehensive medical treatment plan addressing biological, psychological, and sociocultural domains.

  • Performs physical assessment of patients in a logical and respectful manner. Prescribes medical treatment and clinical drugs to patients.

  • Gathers essential and accurate information through the review of pertinent records and interviews with the patient, family members, caregivers, and other health professionals. Reports to the responsible physician and complies with policy co-sig.

  • Reports hazardous or unsafe conditions, equipment malfunction, and supply instrumentation inadequacies to appropriate personnel.

  • Reports all Quality Assurance (QA) incidences, including mediation errors, to responsible physician using department guidelines.

  • Assumes responsibility for increasing knowledge and expertise by attending continuing educational offerings.

  • Makes informed decisions about interventions based on patient information and preference, up-to-date scientific evidence in the field, and clinical judgment.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient information according to federal and state guidelines and regulations.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions  

Members of the Generalist Division provide comprehensive obstetrical and gynecologic care to women working alongside allied health professionals, specialists and subspecialists in both the University of Miami/ UHealth and Jackson Health Systems. Specialty care includes uterine fibroids, sexual health, pelvic pain, vulvar abnormalities, family planning, preconception counseling, cervical dysplasia, and anal dysplasia. A strong commitment to teaching medical students, residents and fellows, and conducting research are prerequisites for leading the

Generalist Division in the role as Division Chief. Clinical investigation includes a broad range of domains, including but not limited to patient oriented, translational, epidemiologic, behavioral, outcomes, implementation or health services research. 

In addition, faculty will have the opportunity for daily interaction and teaching to our 28 residents and medical students. All candidates should be dedicated to providing high quality patient care and exemplary teaching. The department is composed of 30+ faculty members and is based at the University of Miami/ UHealth and Jackson Health Systems in Miami, which is easily accessible and centrally located in Miami, Florida. The Jackson Memorial Holtz Women’s & Children’s Hospital averages 4,000 deliveries a year and has a level 3 NICU staffed by UHealth neonatologists. The Women’s Hospital at Jackson Memorial has been recognized by the Maternal Safety Foundation as an Accreta Center of Excellence and as VBAC Center of Excellence. 

Additional responsibilities: 

  • Outpatient clinics.

  • Direct care to OB/GYN patients. 

  • Consultation for hospitalized patients on L&D service. 

  • Consultation for nonservice unit patients by telephone. 

  • Inpatient L&D at Jackson Holtz Women’s & Children’s Hospital 

  • Required to cover 12 hours shifts on L&D, 6 shifts per month 

  • Will need to use EPIC at UHealth Clinics & Cerner at Jackson Health for documentation and MobileCharge for billing.

Position Summary

Clinical Care – Consultative Services

  • Evaluate patients with impairments resulting from spinal cord injury, stroke, brain injury, amputation, complex orthopedic and musculoskeletal conditions, and medically complex diagnoses. 

  • Develop individualized, interdisciplinary rehabilitation plans using evidence-based methods and best clinical practices. 

  • Recommend appropriate therapies, durable medical equipment, bracing/orthotics, and rehabilitation levels of care (e.g., acute inpatient rehab, SNF, home therapies). 

  • Provide timely documentation, follow-up assessments, and clear recommendations to referring services. 

  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, discharge planning, and coordination with case management and therapy teams. 

  • Provide specialty PM&R expertise to support clinical programs such as neurorehabilitation, spinal cord injury, cancer rehab, medically complex diagnosis, and musculoskeletal medicine. 

Academic and Teaching Responsibilities  

  • Participate in the education and supervision of residents, fellows, and medical students from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

Sebastian Strong Dolphins Cancer Challenge Endowed Chair, Assistant Professor, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center

Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful applicant will have a primary appointment in a department at the University of Miami and research responsibilities within the Translational and Clinical Oncology Program (TCO) at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, which is South Florida’s only NCI-designated Cancer Center. The successful candidate should be motivated to participate in the expansion of driving breakthrough research from laboratory discoveries to novel interventions with direct patient impact. There is particular interest in candidates who would like to pursue greater than 50% of their time to a pediatric related cancer. We welcome highly collaborative team scientists, with a track record of excellence in research, peer-reviewed publications, and the potential to develop and/or lead clinical trials, including investigator-initiated trials. There is a particular interest in candidates interested in precision medicine/pathology.

The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center is a University of Miami Hospital and Clinics Facility, the only university-based cancer center in the region, and a proud member of the Alliance of Dedicated Cancer Centers. Sylvester offers the only Phase 1 clinical trials program in South Florida, providing access to some of the newest investigational therapies.

Key Areas of Responsibility

· Reporting to the Department Chair, the incumbent will conduct, collaborate, and manage scientific research and investigations

· Participates in the management of the daily operations of his/her lab

· Supervise, mentor, and manage postdoctoral fellows as well as graduate students engaged in collaborative research projects

· Explore and develop appropriate research collaborations both within the Department, the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and outside of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine departments and schools

· Collect and analyze data

· Write and submit scientific papers and abstracts, as well as submit grant proposals

· Presents ongoing work and findings to colleagues and at academic/research conferences

· Participates in the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center Junior Development Program

Qualifications

Department Faculty members will need to meet the following requirements:

· Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemistry or Molecular Biology and have appropriate expertise in discovery of molecular, biochemical, or chemical mechanisms.

· Demonstrated knowledge and application of scientific techniques

· Some experience in running a lab, funded research projects, and/or supervising post-docs

· Strong written and oral communication skills

· Ability to work with diverse constituency

· Computer literacy

· Completion of successful academic and research work that has resulted in authorship and/or co-authorship of papers in peer reviewed journals while serving as a faculty, and/or as a scientist.

As an OBHG hospitalist, you are the in-house expert whose advanced clinical skill and ability to handle any OB emergency dramatically improves patient safety and satisfaction. You will work closely with local OB/GYNs to ensure that every pregnant woman who presents to the hospital is cared for by an experienced physician, every time.
