The College of Environmental Design (CED) at UC Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified instructors to provide expertise in studio and non-studio courses for the Master of Real Estate Development + Design program (MRED+D) in the following areas: real estate finance, development, law, and professional practice, architecture, construction, economics + market analysis, and equitable + sustainable development should an opening arise.

Established July 1, 2023, the College of Computing, Data Science, and Society (CDSS) is the first new college at Berkeley in over 50 years. CDSS is seeking outstanding instructors to be appointed in the non-Senate Lecturer title series who can teach small and large courses. The Interdisciplinary Social Sciences Program (ISSP) is the administrative unit that oversees the interdisciplinary majors, minors and graduate programs within the Social Sciences Division of the College of Letters and Sciences at UC Berkeley.
Housed in ISSP, the Master of Computational Social Science (MaCSS) is a new one-year professional master's program that will provide students with practical skills for analyzing, interpreting, and visualizing social data. The Department of Music at the University of California, Berkeley, is generating an applicant pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach a range of performance courses in the Music Department.
These courses include, but not limited to the following:
Music 141 "University Symphony Orchestra"
Music 143 "Gospel Chorus"
Music 144 "University Chorus"
Music 145 "University Chamber Chorus"
Music 149 "University Baroque Ensemble"
Music 141: UCB Symphony Orchestra rehearses twice per week and performs six times per semester.
Music 143: Focuses on the performance of choral music of the African American gospel music tradition with a particular emphasis on contemporary performance techniques. The Gospel Chorus, as is the case with other formal University music performance ensembles, will prepare music to be presented to the public in at least two concerts each semester. Students will be selected for the chorus on the basis of individual auditions.
Music 144: Performs music primarily from the 17th to the 20th centuries including works for chorus and orchestra.
Music 145: A smaller mixed chorus that aims at a professional standard of ensemble singing and explores the lesser-known choral repertory.
Music 149: The performance of Renaissance and Baroque music for voices and instruments.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), and interacting with students outside of class time via email and/or bCourses. Some courses may require supervision of discussion sections taught by graduate students.

The School of Journalism is recruiting for a Director of Special Academic Programs (Academic Coordinator I). This position will be responsible for coordinating the School's summer undergraduate minor, overseeing the undergraduate program overall, helping with coordination of the California Newsroom Fellowship program, and managing other special academic programs.
50% of this position will be dedicated to managing the Undergraduate Minor. The Director (AC) will work with the Undergraduate Advisor and Journalism Staff to manage the undergraduate minor program over Summer 2026 and Summer 2027. The AC will manage all of the academic administration for the program, which includes: working with the Associate Dean to review applicants and participate in interviews; helping to manage Academic Student Employees (ASEs); working with Summer Sessions to advertise classes and participate in workshops or other trainings; leading orientation and training for summer lecturers; and assisting summer lecturers with a variety of academic matters, including curriculum planning, evaluating exceptional student requests, training instructors on the Learning Management Software (known as bCourses), handling classroom incidents or referring to the appropriate campus departments, facilitating incomplete grades resolution, facilitating grade appeals process including informal resolution, and assisting with DSP exam proctoring.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Program Administration & Student Management:
- Oversee the day-to-day management of the minor, including student enrollment, scholarship arrangements, and information dissemination.
- Serve as the primary liaison for curriculum planning, working with the executive and curriculum committees to ensure core and elective course availability.
- Lead program promotion, managing communications, and maintaining the website.
Summer Session Management:
- Serve as the key lead for Summer Sessions, managing hiring, class coordination, and reporting.
- Collaborate closely with the Undergraduate Advisor, Journalism staff, AP Analyst, and Student Services team to meet hiring deadlines for instructors and Academic Student Employees (ASE).
- The AC will work through August 30, 2027 to see the completion of summer session appointments and help instructors with final grade submissions & final offboarding.
Expansion & Access:
- Drive significant expansion of enrollment for the minor.
- Explore establishing the minor as a system-wide offering accessible to other UC students.
- Develop a professional pipeline, including pre-college course offerings for high school students.
- Work to establish a 4+1 BA/MJ degree to facilitate access to graduate-level Journalism education.
- Explore expanding the minor into a full undergraduate major.
- Curriculum & Content: Act as a crucial thought partner to continuously update the curriculum, ensuring it reflects new technologies and political realities within the rapidly evolving journalism industry.
Faculty Engagement:
- Help maintain and increase engagement with the teaching faculty, including Berkeley Senate professors and journalists from top newsrooms.
25% of this position will be dedicated to supporting the California News Fellowship program. The AC will have a central role in the Fellowship Program and its integration with the wider curriculum. Responsibilities include managing the admissions and selection process, such as reviewing applications and participating in the selection of each new cohort. The AC will also review the annual operations handbook to identify development opportunities. Crucially, the AC acts as a system overseer for the fellowship, bridging training opportunities with the graduate curriculum. The AC will be a key thought partner and leader in creating a partnership between the fellowship and the undergraduate minor program, exploring collaborations like joint projects and developing shared training opportunities.
25% of this position will be dedicated to managing the School's other special academic programs which includes the Business Journalism Certificate Program, and the Masters of Journalism/Masters Public Health. The AC would take ownership of these programs and would manage the coordination of all of our special graduate programs as needed across the curriculum.
Possibility of reappointment may be considered based on performance and need of the School.

Position description
The Department of Nutritional Sciences and Toxicology (NST) in the Rausser College of Natural Resources at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary lecturers to teach courses in Nutritional Science and related topics, should an opening arise during the academic year and in the summer. The Department of Nutritional Sciences and Toxicology focuses on the metabolic biology of nutrients and toxicants in relation to human health and disease. Our research and curriculum span a breadth of topics, from delivery of nutrients to mammalian cells and their molecular functions, through the influence of genetics on diet-associated human disease, to programs and policies that address human and environmental health and safety.
The department also offers a Master in Nutritional Sciences & Dietetics graduate program, which combines a strong foundation in the biological and chemical sciences with specialized advanced coursework that focuses on nutrient/non-nutrient function and metabolism. The application of this field informs recommendations for dietary patterns to achieve optimum health and the treatment or prevention of disease conditions as well as food production and safety.
The department typically seeks two different types of lecturer positions when available; one is to teach the courses for the Master in Nutritional Sciences & Dietetics graduate program (NST Dietetic Lecturer) and the other one is to teach the non-dietetic courses in the department (NST Non-Dietetic Lecturer). The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach undergraduate courses in all areas within chemical and biomolecular engineering, though candidates with experience in biochemical engineering laboratory will receive special consideration, should an opening arise. Since 1982, the program has invited excelling students from the Bay Area and around the world into a unique academic community. We look for strong students from all backgrounds who are hardworking, enjoy learning, and are prepared for an intellectually stimulating and demanding summer class. Courses are taught by outstanding public school, private school, and university instructors as well as industry professionals who have deep knowledge of their subject areas and are committed to helping students think and understand deeply.
ATDP's mission is to enable all highly motivated and prepared students to pursue their academic passions through rigorous summer coursework in a community of like-minded peers.
ATDP's Learner Outcomes state that ATDP students will be able to:
- successfully complete rigorous and challenging coursework in a chosen discipline,
- pursue their academic passions and deep interests, and
- participate in an academic community of similarly motivated peers.
Teacher Special Programs (TSP): The TSP will teach within ATDP's summer Elementary Division (ED, grades K-6), Secondary Division (SD, grades 7-12), or Global Programs (GP grades 7-12). This involves designing, and delivering age, grade, and achievement level student-centered curricula for a particular content area within the format and time parameters of a specific course, and whose teaching philosophy is aligned with ATDP's mission and Learner Outcomes.
ATDP unites teachers who love to teach with students who want to learn. We are in constant search of qualified, temporary, part-time, high-energy, passionate, and creative instructors, co-instructors, and instructional associates (IAs) for our summer courses. While each summer's faculty cohort is generally assembled by late winter, specific openings may remain unfilled, and we will keep promising candidates in mind for future summers.

Position description
The Department of Earth & Planetary Science at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary lecturers and lecturers in lieu of GSI's to teach Earth and Planetary Science courses should an opening arise. Department policy requires instructors to create and maintain a bcourses site.

* World History: a survey course in modern world history, with an emphasis on Political Economy;
* Regional courses (example, Africa, Asia, East Europe, Latin America, etc.) that address Political Economy themes;
* Interdisciplinary approaches to Political Economy;
* Development Studies;
* Critical Thinking and/or Theories and Methods courses;
* Thesis writing courses.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties may include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g. syllabus), writing exams, interacting with students outside of class time via email and/or a course web site, and managing teaching assistants.

PhD (or equivalent international degree), or enrolled in PhD or equivalent international degree-granting program at the time of application.

Preferred qualifications
PhD in the fields of history, political science, economics, sociology, geography or related fields. Academic experience with Political Economy, and/or interdisciplinary approaches to teaching, research or regional studies.
