Responsibilities

Outpatient Clinic Duties

  • Perform comprehensive evaluations of new and returning spine patients
  • Develop and manage individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising physicians
  • Conduct pre-operative evaluations and provide surgical education to patients and families
  • Injections and minor office procedures
  • Interpret imaging and diagnostic test results
  • Perform post-operative assessments including wound checks, suture/staple removal, and medication management
  • Collaborate with physical therapy and rehabilitation teams
  • Address patient questions, return messages, and manage refill requests
  • Provide ongoing patient education and support

Qualifications

  • Licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the state of New Hampshire and Maine or eligible to obtain

  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience, preferably in orthopaedics, neurosurgery, spine, or related specialty

A. Hospital Duties

  • Complete post-operative orders and brief op notes
  • Conduct daily inpatient rounds: assess progress, review labs, coordinate care with PT/OT, and complete daily notes/orders
  • Apply and manage casts, splints, and braces
  • Provide patient and family education
  • Collaborate with discharge planners for rehab/home care coordination
  • Complete discharge summaries and transfer documentation

B. Outpatient Clinic Duties

  • Evaluate and manage new and existing patients with orthopedic/spine conditions
  • Formulate and execute treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising physician
  • Conduct pre-op assessments and education; complete H&Ps and documentation
  • Manage post-op visits including imaging review and wound checks
  • Respond to patient inquiries and coordinate communication with other providers
  • Authorize medication refills and therapy referrals
  • Serve as a liaison between the physician and office staff
  • Maintain CME credits, licensure, and certifications

C. Call Coverage

  • Participate in rotating call schedule for:
  • Inpatient rounding
  • ER consultations
  • OR assistance
  • Return of urgent calls from patients or healthcare providers
