COSCO Shipping (North America) is seeking a Junior Legal Affairs Associate to join our in house Legal Counsel, onsite at our Secaucus, NJ office. In this role, you will be responsible for providing legal support to the company and its subsidiaries. Specific responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
- Provide general support to Department Manager on legal affairs matters related to the Company and its subsidiaries, including but not limited to meeting management, contract management, basic legal issue research, legal billing management.
- Coordinate with Companyβs various outside legal counsels on companyβs various investment projects, litigations and other legal issues.
- Perform contract review for the company and its subsidiaries.
- Draft company memo and official response letters.
- Draft company legal affairs procedures, and other company regulations.
- Conduct general research on most current legal affairs, risk management and compliance techniques.
- With guidance from the direct manager, perform litigation management, contract management, policy review, L1 petition preparation and coordinator, and other department related tasks.
Additional Qualifications or requirements:
- Legal education preferred
- Law degree preferred
- Bar license and one year of work experience in legal practice or inhouse work preferred
- Excellent writing and communication skills

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job.

β’ Work closely with the site supervisor to ensure efficient execution of contract requirements.
Act a back-up in the supervisorβs absence β’ Mentor and train transportation officers in the field.
β’ Perform transportation duties per PBNDS Standards and Training.
Transportation and guard services will be provided 24/7 throughout the Newark AOR .
β’ Ensure all detainee transports are documented and detainee records and possessions are always safeguarded.
Provide trip documentation to the Transportation Coordinator in a timely manner.
β’ Notify Operations Supervisor, Transportation Coordinator and/or Project Manager of any route variations/changes.
β’ Ensure that any required detainee documentation is obtained from the transferring facility/agency prior to departure.
β’ Ensure that the assigned vehicle maintenance and service records are in corresponding binders.
β’ Report any safety related transportation issues immediately and complete a vehicle repair order and give to the Supervisor in charge of Fleet Management.
β’ Conduct pre-trip vehicle inspections on your assigned vehicle prior to departing the HUB.
Complete post vehicle checks at the completion of your assignment.
β’ Ensure all required equipment is present in your assigned vehicle prior to departing.
This shall include, but not limited to, first aid kits, insurance card, flares, security devices, etc.
(See equipment list assigned to each vehicle.) β’ Report for work at your scheduled time (assigned by Operations Supervisor daily).
β’ If assigned to a stationary guard post, such as hospital duty, ensure compliance with Post Orders and hospital protocol.
β’ Ensure you always have in your possession; guard card, weapons permit, ICE ID, Company ID, medical card (if applicable).
β’ Forward any gas receipts to the Supervisor in charge of Fleet Management.
β’ Report any accidents, incidents and/or injuries associated with your transportation duties.
Complete any required incident reports and/or documentation prior to your departure.
β’ Complete a Record of Presence (ROP), equipment and key sign in/out sheet and all associated paperwork necessary daily.

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications (applies to both this section and KSAOβs) β’ High School Diploma β’ Minimum two (2) yearsβ experience as a Law Enforcement Officer and/or Military Police Officer or six (6) months experience as a security officer engaged in functions related to detailing civil or administrative detainees or, two (2) years active-duty military service with an honorable discharge.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics β’ Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
β’ Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and data entry.
β’ Effective organizational skills.
