POSITION PURPOSE
Serves as a critical liaison between the Operating Room, PACU, and other departments, coordinating patient care, scheduling, and ensuring smooth operations for a specific surgical service line. This role requires exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders across the healthcare system. Provides perioperative patient care according to established guidelines while serving as a clinical resource, preceptor, and role model. This position serves diverse populations from infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult to geriatric patients.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Liaison & Coordination
· Serves as the primary point of contact between the OR, PACU, service lines, medical providers, and other departments
· Facilitates seamless communication and collaboration among all stakeholders
· Addresses and resolves interdepartmental issues related to the service line
· Coordinates multidisciplinary meetings and follows up on action items
· Prepares and runs reports related to service line volume and other metrics as needed
· Analyzes performance data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement
2. Clinical Leadership
· Coordinates all cases in an efficient manner, specifically those involving specialized technologies, equipment, or supplies related to service line operations
· Maintains comprehensive knowledge of equipment setup and function
· Stays current on best practices and procedures in perioperative services
· Contributes to continuous improvement initiatives and quality enhancement projects
· Initiates and directs room cleanup and turnover to maximize efficiency

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Possession of a current or compact state license as a registered nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa.
2. Two years’ experience as an operating room nurse required.
3. Basic Life Support certified within six (6) weeks of hire. The acceptable credentialing body is the American Heart Association.
4. Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.
5. Ability to read, write and speak English language.
6. Strong interpersonal skills with staff, management and physicians required.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

2. PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS:
· If a patient is unable to function independently, a mechanical/assistive device and/or additional personnel must be utilized. If an object requires lifting > 50 lbs., additional equipment/personnel must also be utilized.
· Heavy work: Exerting up to 65 lbs. push/pull (force to move frequently, and lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally, and lifting up to 40 lbs. frequently, and lifting up to 20 lbs. constantly, to move patient and/or objects.
3. VISUAL ACUITY REQUIREMENTS:
· Ability to read and prepare written documentation.
· Ability to identify IV solutions, medications, etc.
· Ability to utilize computer terminal.

5 South is a 40-bed, fast-paced, team-oriented, medical-surgical unit caring for acutely ill adults specializing in urology, nephrology, trauma, and colorectal surgery and general body systems. PostingPOSITION PURPOSE
The dedicated Charge Nurse is a registered nurse responsible for providing shift-to-shift leadership for the practice and delivery of safe, effective, efficient, ethical, and culturally competent care to the unit patient population. This pivotal role bridges direct patient care with administrative responsibilities, ensuring optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership, resource allocation, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develops and maintains departmental daily staffing plan detailing appropriate employee classifications and qualifications consistent with the department's operational plan, projected volumes, patient/acuity and other relevant indicators. Assures compliance with staffing plan.
Oversees daily operations, staff management, and coordination of interdepartmental activities within the unit or department during the assigned shift.
Responsible for resolving clinical issues, and serving as a liaison between nurses, physicians, and administrative teams.
Provides orientation/education for staff and students to ensure assigned patients have a positive care experience.
Leads staff in the delivery of safe and effective patient care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
Deliver patient care through patient preparation, vital sign collection, and documentation. Assist with various procedures, exams, and diagnostic equipment (e.g., tympanometry, spirometry). Maintain aseptic techniques during preparation, procedures, and medication administration.
Administer medications, treatments, and immunizations under the direction of providers.
Prepare and organize patient charts with necessary information. File dictations and ensure completion of all required documentation. Communicate with patient regarding test results and plan of care
Schedule procedures, labs, x-rays, and surgeries; provide pre- and post-surgery information. Assist with patient outreach for overdue visits, labs, and referrals.
Coordinate physician schedules and ensure insurance pre-certifications. Schedule and manage patient follow-ups, ensuring continuity of care.
Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to organizational standards and ethical guidelines.
Educate patients and families based on assessed needs and discharge plans.
Promote evidence-based resources to optimize nursing practice and patient care.
Proactively serves as a patient advocate by utilizing courteous and professional etiquette at all times reflecting positive tone and speaking distinctly with poise, tact and assurance. Assures accurate and complete messages to appropriate personnel.
Assists in training, orienting, and supporting new colleagues. Work includes cross coverage in other clinic areas as team needs.
Document patient plan(s) of care, tests and examination results in the medical record as directed by the provider. Escalate non-routine issues, questions and/or concerns to the practice manager or healthcare provider(s).
Ensure safety checklists/quality controls are completed as required.
Other duties as needed and assigned by the manager.
Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
Successful completion of a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).
Must obtain one of the following certifications listed for a Medical Assistant with their corresponding listed certification provider within one year of hire:

The Nurse Leader (NL) is a licensed registered nurse (RN) accountable for leading, managing & advancing people, processes & / or programs that support direct or indirect patient care. The NL promotes & advocates for patients, nurses / colleagues & the practice of nursing as defined by clinical area(s) of expertise & assignment. This role will support the MercyOne Cedar Falls Medical Center’s OR, Sterile Processing, PACU, PAT, ASU, Infusion Services, Pain Clinic, and Outpatient Services.
FUNCTIONAL ROLEProvides operations & / or optimization leadership to professional & / or frontline staff, supervisors & / or managers; Retains accountability for staff coordination, training, hiring, performance, regulatory compliance & results of assigned department(s); Develops departmental plans, including organizational priorities; Controls resources, effectiveness & policy formation in area of responsibility; Collaborates with larger teams of health professionals to plan for long-term patient care needs.
Operations-focus: Directly manages department(s) / service line; Decisions are guided by resource availability as informed by operational need, functional objectives & clinical drivers of department; Responsible for driving outcomes through the daily management of resources; Primarily patient facing
Optimization-focus (advance, improve, enhance, leverage): Manages indirect or patient care department / program; Priorities are guided by the operational & clinical needs of patient care areas; Develops plans in concert with Nursing Operations Managers in support of the department functional objectives & clinical drivers where support is assigned.

BSN required. Master’s degree is preferred.
Current Iowa RN license, at least two (2) years of relevant clinical nursing experience is required.
Two (2) years of OR experience.
Relevant supervisory experience is preferred.
Basic Life Support (BLS) is required within three (3) months of hire.
Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter for both Child and Dependent Adult Abuse, ACLS training is required within six (6) months of hire.
Specialty practice certification is preferred.
