What You’ll Do

  • Review customer RFQs, blueprints, and 3D CAD models to assess manufacturability and define project scope
  • Develop efficient manufacturing process plans, including operation sequencing
  • Estimate setup times, cycle times, labor, and machine utilization using CAM software and historical data
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates covering materials, labor, machine time, tooling, outside services, and overhead

MANUAL MACHINIST SUMMARY

Set-up, adjust and operate conventional and/or CNC machines to fabricate required parts by performing the following duties. Experience with HAAS, Bridgeport style knee mills and manual lathes, pedestal and surface grinders, fixtures and jigs.

MANUAL MACHINIST ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties as assigned.

  • Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and set-up requirements.
  • Measure, mark and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jog borers, grinders, and shapers.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verify conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
  • Set up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Fit and assemble parts into complete assembly.
  • Install machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and test operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Develop specifications from general description and draw sketch or part or product to be fabricated.
  • Confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
