JOB DESCRIPTION
- Support municipal bond transactions as bond counsel, disclosure counsel, or issuer's counsel
- Draft and review bond resolutions, official statements, closing documents, and related transaction materials
- Assist with due diligence and manage bond closing logistics and timelines
- Help advise clients on federal tax-exempt bond rules and securities law compliance
- Provide day-to-day counsel to cities, counties, and public boards on municipal governance and statutory authority
- Research and support compliance on open meetings, public records, conflicts of interest, and ethics issues
- Draft ordinances, policies, development agreements, and intergovernmental contracts
- Assist with urban renewal planning, TIF ordinances, development incentives, and implementation strategy
- Attend and support client meetings (council/board meetings as needed) and communicate clearly with public stakeholders
QUALIFICATIONS
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- 0+ years of experience (we're open to new grads through early-career attorneys); public finance, municipal, or transactional exposure is a plus
- Strong legal writing, research, and attention to detail
- Professional communication style and comfort working with public clients
- Ability to prioritize deadlines and manage multiple matters without dropping details

Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Energy Attorney to join our growing practice. The ideal candidate will have 2–7 years of experience in energy law and be ready to take on meaningful responsibility in a supportive, team-oriented environment. This position offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of complex and high-impact matters while building long-term client relationships.
Responsibilities:
- Advise clients on energy regulatory and compliance issues, including matters before local, state, and federal regulatory bodies (e.g., local boards, the state public utility commission, and/or FERC).
- Draft applications seeking siting and construction permits for energy generating and/or transmission facilities and associated review of consultant reports and other supporting materials.
- Draft proposed agreements with local governments, including agreements regarding road use, decommissioning, and drain tile repair.
- Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda, pleadings, briefs, and/or other filings to be submitted in administrative and judicial proceedings.
- Collaborate with attorneys across practice areas (corporate, environmental, real estate, and litigation) to deliver comprehensive client service.
- Assist with drafting or negotiating contracts related to the transfer of generation assets, including development-transfer, build-transfer, and/or power-purchase agreements.
- Participate in business development efforts, including industry conferences, client presentations, and thought leadership opportunities.
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in Iowa
- 2–7 years of experience practicing energy regulatory law or litigation in a law firm, government agency, or in-house setting.
- Strong understanding of regulatory law, utility operations, , or renewable energy project development.
- Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
