Reporting to the Dahms Clinical Research Unit Director of Research Bionutrition, this position supports the bionutrition division of the Dahms Clinical Research Center (DCRU), a core within University Hospitals Clinical Research Unit. The DCRU has been a unit in UH for over 60 years.

* Duties include research protocol review of nutrition needs requested, preparation and implementation of nutrition related services, data analysis, quality control of data, and data collection

* Data collection includes (but not limited to): dietary assessment, 24-hour dietary recall, menu development, diet preparation, food procurement, meal distribution, body composition assessment (including dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry equipment -DXA), lifestyle intervention, dietary counseling.

* In addition, this position requires critical thinking, excellent communication skills, efficient at time management, able to manage multiple research protocols at different stages of the research timeline, and an aptitude for problem solving.

* General X-Ray Machine Operators (GXMO) license within the first 90 days in order to operate DXA (DCRU will arrange).

The Clinical Dietitian Specialist will display effective nutrition care and critical thinking skills to complex cases. Will display strong communication and in-depth education skillset in daily practice. Will be involved in projects that are clinically relevant to nutrition care.
What You Will Do

* Delivering Effective Nutrition Care (Develops & implements decision making tools for potential complex cases in area of specialty)
* Critical Thinking & Decision Making (Demonstrates proficiency in professional judgment and strategic thinking in practice)
* Communication & Education (Provides education to staff, interns & other health care professionals in the hospital in area of expertise )
* Leadership (Leads in updating & development of policies & procedures & SOP)

Qualifications
Education

* Master's Degree in Food & Nutrition. (Required) or
* Bachelor's Degree in Food and Nutrition if established eligibility for the registration examination for dietitians on or before December 31, 2023 (Required)
* Work Experience

* 5+ years experience working as a clinical dietitian working in the environment of an acute care hospital. (Preferred)

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

* Completion of an ACEND accredited Supervised Practice Program. (Required proficiency)
* Must remain in good standing with both accrediting boards. (Required proficiency)
* This position possesses advanced skills to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and apply the nutrition care process to patient care. (Required proficiency)
* Demonstrates advanced skills to evaluate and recommend nutrition needs based on the specific combined objective/subjective information for a complex clinical nutrition assessment. (Required proficiency)
* High level of analytical ability to incorporate into practicing advance clinical and theoretical concepts. (Required proficiency)
* Strong communication/ interpersonal skills to effectively work with patients, families, physicians and other health care professionals to enhance collaboration and problem solving. (Required proficiency)
* Demonstrates ability to lead projects for department. (Required proficiency)
* Provides lectures to professional staff. (Required proficiency)
* Mentor to interns, students, staff, peers and colleagues. (Required proficiency)
* Ability to implement a performance improvement project. (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications

* Licensed Dietitian (LD) in the State of Ohio (Required Upon Hire)
* Registered Dietitian (RD) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (Required Upon Hire)
* Specialty certification, such as, certification in nutrition support, diabetes, oncology, renal, sports nutrition, pediatrics or geriatric (Required)
* Maintains the required continuing education credits for Registration and License. (Required) and

* 2yrs LEVEL III or LEVEL IV NICU RN experience is required for this position. New Grad RNs will not be considered for this role.

* Uses a wide variety of technical equipment to meet patient needs and prescribed clinical therapies (ie. stethoscopes, thermometers, sphygmomanometers and electronic monitoring devices. (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications

* Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required Upon Hire)
