Summary:

The Ultrasound Technologist will perform a wide variety of routine and advanced imaging procedures, will provide support for other imaging technologists as needed, and help to facilitate smooth and efficient patient flow. The Ultrasound Technologist must be able to handle the movement, set-up, and operation of medical ultrasound equipment. The technologist will demonstrate flexibility by working other shifts and/or at other campuses as needed or required. Job Requirements:

Education/Skills

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Ultrasound Technology or other accepted and approved equivalent required

Experience

  • 1 year of ultrasound scanning experience preferred
  • Basic computer experience required

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • Requires one of the following within 1 year of hire:
    • Sonography (S) by ARRT
    • Abdomen (AB) RDMS by ARDMS
    • Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN) RDMS by ARDMS
  • Prefers one of the following, along with the required:
    • Vascular Sonography (VS) by ARRT
    • Breast Sonography (BS) by ARRT
    • Breast (BR) RDMS by ARDMS
    • Adult Echocardiography (AE) RDCS by ARDMS
    • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) by ARDMS
  • State Licensure is required if in New Mexico

Summary:

The Clinical Documentation Registered Nurse collaborates extensively with physicians, nursing staff, other patient caregivers and coding staff to improve the quality and completeness of documentation of care provided and coded for coordination, abstraction and submission of accurate data required by CMS. Facilitates concurrent modifications to clinical documentation to insure commensurate reimbursement of clinical severity and services rendered to patients with a DRG based payer (Medicare, Medicaid). Supports timely, accurate and complete documentation of clinical information used for measuring and reporting physician and facility outcomes. Communicates with and educates all clinical staff concerning accurate and effective clinical documentation.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews inpatient medical records for identified payer populations as within one business day of admission and throughout hospitalization to identify opportunities for physician documentation.
  • Analyzes clinical status of patient, current treatment plan, and past medical history and identifies potential gaps in MD documentation and leaves physician query to obtain complete, accurate clinical documentation.
  • Works closely with HIM coding staff to assure documentation of discharge diagnosis and any co-existing co-morbidities is a complete reflection of the patient’s clinical status and care
  • Maintain a DRG worksheet to assist coders on identifying all documented POA/HAC, diagnosis and procedures
  • Updates DRG worksheet to reflect any changes to inpatient status/procedure/treatment and confers with the physician to finalize diagnosis.
  • Demonstrates basic knowledge about HIM coding standards and applies to ongoing evaluation of medical record documentation for accuracy of physician documentation to support the acuity of illness.
  • Performs chart review on expired patients to identify severity of illness and risk of mortality for performance improvement activities.
  • Develops and implements plans for both formal and informal education of physician, nursing, and other clinical staff on clinical documentation opportunities, coding and reimbursement as well as performance improvement methodologies.
  • Collaborate with case manager regarding cases with length of stay outside of the expected GMLOS, to ensure documentation identifies severity of illness and maximizes reimbursement potential.
  • Coordinates and assures complete and accurate data collection and validation for public reporting data initiatives for Premier, CMS and JCAHO.

Summary:

The Ultrasound Technologist will perform a wide variety of routine and advanced imaging procedures, will provide support for other imaging technologists as needed, and help to facilitate smooth and efficient patient flow. The Ultrasound Technologist must be able to handle the movement, set-up, and operation of medical ultrasound equipment. The technologist will demonstrate flexibility by working other shifts and/or at other campuses as needed or required. The technologist must be able to troubleshoot basic maintenance, participate in QA, and resolve issues related to image processing and the image archiving system. Expectation to participate in ongoing education, safety, and technical advances within their scope of licensure. The technologist will adhere to, and maintain, the expected imaging competencies as outlined by management. Behavior and communication skills must align with the organization's mission, values, and culture.

Responsibilities:

  • Appropriately adapt assigned patient assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each patient served.
  • Ensures compliance with all policies, procedures, and standards of care as deemed appropriate by State and Federal agencies, the hospital, and other regulatory entities.
  • Performs examinations/procedures as needed to assist in patient throughput within the scope of the Manager’s license(s), certification(s), and/or documented competencies.
  • Demonstrates flexibility by working other shifts and at other campuses as needed or required.
  • Ensures completed exams are scanned and stored correctly in PACS.
  • Ability to follow PACS downtime procedures as a PACS Superuser and escalate any problem(s) or issue(s) to the PACS administrator or Designee if needed.
  • Troubleshoots and reports any equipment malfunctions to the Director/Manager and/or Biomedical personnel; does appropriate follow-up.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education/Skills

Experience

  • 1 year of ultrasound scanning experience preferred
  • Basic computer experience required

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • Sonography (S) in Abdomen by ARRT or ARDMS required within 1 year of hire
  • Certification in OB/GYN, Vascular, or Breast preferred
  • State Licensure required if in New Mexico-DMS by MIRTP NMEDΒ 
  • BLS required
