Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required
• Possess a current valid driver's license
• Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is mandatory.
• Must be at least 21 years old at the time of application and under 40 at referral. Exceptions may apply for those with current or prior service in federal law enforcement positions covered by special retirement provisions. The Secret Service has determined that age is essential to the performance of this position.
• You must obtain a Top Secret Clearance and retain it during your career.
• Possess uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100 binocular, possess corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye.
• Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 25 decibels (A.S.A. or equivalent I.S.O.) in either ear in the 500,1000 and 2000Hz ranges.
• Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
• Complete 13 weeks of intensive training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center(FLETC) in Glynco, GA and 18 weeks of specialized training at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD.
• Sign a mobility agreement stating your willingness to accept assignments anywhere within the United States and overseas.
• Certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so, if you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959.

Position Overview

The Vice Chair of the Heart and Vascular Institute and Chief of Cardiology will play a pivotal role in advancing AtlantiCare’s mission to deliver exceptional cardiovascular care while aligning with Vision 2030. This dual leadership position will oversee the clinical, educational, and research activities within the cardiology division, fostering growth, innovation, and collaboration. The role requires a dynamic leader with a commitment to clinical excellence, operational efficiency, and team engagement.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality clinical care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Participate in call rotations as part of the cardiology team.
• Lead and engage in multidisciplinary peer review processes to ensure clinical quality.
• Identify and implement strategies to reduce barriers to efficient and appropriate patient care.
• Minimize inappropriate use of non-invasive testing through evidence-based practices.
• Ensure seamless transitions of care, including effective hand-offs between acute and ambulatory settings.

Leadership Responsibilities

• Report directly to the Chair of the Heart and Vascular Institute.
• Collaborate closely with the Vice Chairs of Vascular Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery, as well as Practice/Service Line Leadership.
• Partner with the Medical Director of Medical Specialties to provide medical oversight for cardiology offices and hospital-based cardiology services.
• Supervise APG cardiologists, advanced practice nurses (APNs), and physician assistants (PAs).
• Oversee hospital-based cardiology procedures.
• Facilitate effective communication with leadership regarding practice progress, challenges, and achievements.
• Analyze referral barriers (internal and external) and develop strategies to enhance relationships with referring providers/institutions.
• Regularly review financial data, metrics, and performance for both practice-based and hospital-based cardiology services; ensure alignment with budgetary goals.
• Develop targeted strategies for underperforming practices or physicians in collaboration with the Medical Director of Medical Specialties.
• Drive initiatives to improve physician engagement and satisfaction within APG Cardiology.

Educational and Research Responsibilities

• Support the development and growth of the newly instituted cardiology fellowship program.
• Foster a culture that promotes education, mentorship, and professional development among staff and fellows.
• Advance research initiatives by building infrastructure that supports clinical trials and academic contributions.

Performance Metrics

• The Vice Chair will be accountable for meeting or exceeding the following metrics:
• Timely completion of patient documentation:
• Office visit reports dictated and signed within 24 hours.
• Inpatient consults, procedural reports, and discharge summaries completed within 12 hours.
• Non-invasive imaging studies read within 24 hours at target levels.
• Streamlined patient access:
• Maintain or exceed goals for time-to-be-seen metrics.
• Ensure customer satisfaction scores meet or exceed institutional targets.
• Adherence to scheduled office sessions unless cancellations are communicated at least 24 hours in advance for proper patient notification.

Position Overview

AtlantiCare Health System is seeking a Board Certified / Board Eligible Pulmonary & Critical Care Physician to join a highly collaborative and growing team. This position offers a balanced mix of inpatient pulmonary, ICU coverage, and outpatient care across two hospital campuses and a modern outpatient practice.

Physicians benefit from strong Advanced Practice Provider (APP) support, a collegial environment, and opportunities to engage in teaching as the system continues to expand its academic footprint.

• Convenient proximity between campuses (~12–15 miles)

• Outpatient location within easy commuting distance in South Jersey

Schedule & Structure

• Balanced inpatient, ICU, and outpatient responsibilities

• Rotational model:

  • 5 days inpatient (Mainland or City campus)

  • 5 days outpatient practice

• One Friday–Monday ICU block per rotation

• Night call taken from home

• No overnight in-house ICU call required

Support Model:

• 24/7 in-house ICU coverage by intensivists and APPs

• Dedicated APP support at each campus

• Shared, team-based care model

Responsibilities

• Provide inpatient pulmonary and critical care consults

• Manage MICU patients alongside intensivist team

• Deliver outpatient pulmonary care in Egg Harbor Township

• Collaborate with and supervise APPs

• Participate in teaching opportunities with residents and medical students

Workload & Call

• Approximately 50/50 inpatient and outpatient mix

• Primarily home-based call

• Weekend responsibilities include:

  • MICU coverage (Saturday & Sunday)

  • Consult coverage across both campuses
