Harman Claytor Corrigan & Wellman is searching for a civil litigator to join our growing practice in the firmβs Alexandria office.
The ideal candidate will have 2-8 years of litigation experience with superior legal writing and research abilities, exceptional client service skills, and a strong desire to take a lead role in case handling.Β Candidates must be barred in MD.
Ideal candidates are also barred in DC and/or VA.Β This is an excellent opportunity for immediate first-chair experience and exposure to all aspects of case management including depositions, motions practice, mediations, and trials in state and federal courts throughout MD, DC and VA.Β Position is hybrid.Β Remote work is an option for the right candidate.Β Β
Under the supervision of Regional Manager, the Staff Attorney will conduct the closings and supervise the settlement processes. The Staff Attorney will also assist with marketing efforts.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review deeds, contracts, powers of attorney, trust documents, title abstract reports, and any other legal documents relevant to conducting settlements and insuring title.
- Review title commitments for accuracy.
- Clear and resolve title curative matters.
- Assist processors with questions regarding legal and curative matters.
- Answer client questions pertaining to title insurance.
- Conduct settlements.
- Present educational courses.
- Assist with business development.

Minimum Requirements:

- Must have an understanding of title operations, underwriting and state guidelines.
- Must be a licensed attorney in the state in which the position is located
- Must have a title insurance license or the ability to obtain one
- 2+ years of real estate legal experience preferred.

Job Description
- Manage and support personal injury files from intake through resolution, with increasing ownership over time
- Communicate directly with clients and guide them through litigation and settlement strategy
- Draft and review pleadings, motions, discovery, and case correspondence
- Conduct discovery, take and defend depositions as appropriate, and coordinate experts and records
- Negotiate settlements with insurance carriers and opposing counsel
- Appear in General District Court and Circuit Court and assist with trial preparation
Qualifications
- Virginia Bar required
- 0+ years of litigation experience preferred, personal injury experience is a plus but not required
- Strong legal writing, attention to detail, and comfort with client-facing work
