Position Summary

The Unit Counselor supports campers throughout their camp experience by upholding the standards of Girl Scouts of the USA, the American Camp Association, and the New York State Department of Health. This role works closely with the Unit Leader to help plan, teach, supervise, and coordinate engaging unit activities while fostering a safe, inclusive, and enriching environment for all campers.

Key Functions & Responsibilities

• Carry out duties as delegated by the Unit Leader
• Build positive relationships with campers and support them in respecting individual differences and similarities
• Assist in teaching basic camping skills and encouraging appreciation for the outdoors
• Support supervision of unit housekeeping, sanitation, and proper care of supplies and equipment
• Help guide unit activities using troop government, girl–adult planning, and the Girl Scout program model
• Serve as a waterfront guard or watcher and/or assist with swimming lessons as required
• Promptly report any illness or injury to the Unit Leader and help maintain camper safety at all times
• Assist with supervising camper activities to ensure a safe and supportive environment
• Attend Thursday overnight stays as required
