General Summary of Position
Monitors nutritional care manages physician-ordered therapeutic diets and provides nutritional education to patients. Implements protocols patient care and metabolic/sterile kitchen supervision and teaching. Participates in the development of nutrition projects research and educational programs.

Provides comprehensive Medical Nutrition Therapy to inpatients with a variety of medical conditions. This includes but is not limited to performing malnutrition assessments nutrition focused physical exams diet educations and providing nutrition support recommendations. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy policies procedures and standards while adhering to MedStar's "Spirit Values.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
* Consults with and/or makes recommendations to physicians and other allied health professionals regarding patients' nutritional statuses nutrient needs or specific diet plans.
* Formulates nutrition assessment evaluation and follow-up plans for patients at nutrition risk as ordered by providers or according to departmental policy. Recommends and documents patient's nutrition treatment findings and plan in the patient's medical record.
* Consults in/outpatients in diet rationale for self-management.
* Participates in clinical rounds appropriate department/service meetings and communicates appropriate information to administrative personnel in service area. Must be flexible to cross-cover and train in all areas including the Neonatal ICU and Pediatrics if needed.
* Reviews at least one annual review of literature pertinent to the area(s) of responsibility and presents to peers in Journal Club.

Requirements:
- Must have a minimum of 1 year recent RN IMCU or MPCU or PCCU experience
- Baccalaureate degree, in nursing from an accredited School of Nursing, preferred.
Applicants with an Associate Degree in nursing will be considered. per nursing guidelines, must matriculate to Bachelors of Nursing program. - Active BLS via AHA, American Red Cross or Military Training Network at time of hire

The Johns Hopkins Hospital Surgical Progressive Care Unit is a 32-bed general surgical unit. The unit offers three levels of care: Floor, Telemetry, and Intermediate Medical Care (IMC). Services provided:IMC patient arrythmia management, BiPAP/CPAP, bedside bronchoscopy, Thoracic surgery (lung resections, pneumonectomy, esophagectomy), Trauma, Urology(RRP, TURP), and variety of other general surgery patients. You will help lead different initiatives and support the Nurse Manager in the day-to-day operations of the unit, provide resources to staff and help provide patient care. This role is vital in ensuring the unit runs smoothly.
The Lead Clinical Nurse (RN) provides guidance and direction to staff and acts in the absence of the Assistant Nurse Manager/Nurse Manager to oversee a clinical team during care delivery and unit operations.

Qualifications:
- BSN/MSN from an accredited nursing program required.
- Active Maryland or Compact RN license is required
- BLS CPR certification required
- Must have at least 3 years of intermediate care or higher acuity RN work experience;
- Ability to lead others, assist in development & implementation of procedures for the unit, use principles of conflict resolution, recommend resource utilization, and implement performance management of staff.
